How are the parks in December?

Is universal and IOA typically crowded say...after Christmas and before New Years? If I plan on going around that time what should my strategy be? Where should we stay and for long? (How many days does it take to see all of Universal?)

Also, what sites do you use when booking the trip? Do you go directly thought universal or use a combination of different sites?
