How are the lovebugs this week?

We were there last week and they drove DD (3) and I completely crazy. It was fine in the mornings and evenings - but mid day was terrible. Especially on the boats and near the bus stops...YUCK. I don't think we'll be back at this time of year just because of them... (though the rest of the trip was great)

They were nasty all week. They would get all over our stroller and diaper bag while we had it parked and we would have to swat them off the whole thing before putting my DS back in his stroller. I think they were the worst at AK, but they were pretty gross wherever we went.

Just got back today and they were HORRIBLE. There were maids trying to sweet them off the sidewalks at Coronado they were everywhere.

I will say though that Friday night at MNSSHP and then yesterday at Epcot and DTD they didn't seem AS BAD as they had been earlier in the week.

Just got back on Friday. The bugs were out but didn't bother us much in the parks. I sprayed the front of my car with Pam before we left. That helped! And took some Bug remover spray wtih me to clean my windshield off. Get those guts off soon!

48 hours till we're at Disney so I finally broke down and warned DD8 last night about these bugs. I used to live in southern FL so I am well aware of the annoying critters but like so many kids, my DD HATES bugs.

I hope the posters were right and they really do seem to be getting better the last few days. For those of you going in a few weeks, no worries; lovebugs are typically only "out" in May & September, and last about 4 weeks. Sounds like they've been out about 2 weeks now...

We've been here a week and they've been awful! I had never heard of them before and will definitely stay away in September in future (it's also very hot, feels hotter than when we were here in April which was horribly hot this year, and even feels worse than last June/July).

We went to Blizzard Beach one day and almost left without even going into the locker room to change clothes. They were really bad by the locker area. We spoke to a CM who said they were worse this year than he's ever experienced them. He also said that they will ruin the paint on your car so you need to clean them off quickly. We have a rental from Avis which is brand new -- only had 5.8 miles on it when they gave it to us. We've cleaned the windows, but the front grill and side mirrors are disgusting. The CM said that birds won't even eat them because they are so acidic.

We did eventually change clothes and enjoy BB for a couple of hours. The lovebugs were not bad in the lazy river or on the runoff rapids, but at the top of Teamboat Springs they were really thick. There was no wait so we got into our tube and out of there immediately, but we felt so bad for the CM who was standing up there being swarmed by them.

The love bugs are fine. In fact, they're fantastic! However, the rest of us are miserable!!! ;)

They're really bad right now. We tried to take a bike ride over to Fort Wilderness but we got hit in the face by so many of them we decided to turn around and go back home.

We were also there during the masses of love bugs last week - it was pretty gross! We had the most trouble with them on rides like Dumbo, Flying Carpets, Triceratop Spin, Astro Orbitor... They just covered the seats! Does anyone know when they first came out? I am thinking about planning our next Sept. trip for the 1st or 2nd week instead of the 3rd - think it will make a difference? We were there last year from the 22nd to the 29th and they were hardly noticeable. Don't know why they were so bad this year? :confused3

Another place we noticed them really bad last week was on the trams at the MK. We drove one day and they were covering the trams. My niece had an absolute meltdown, and my sister had to hold her, screaming and crying. They are nasty little things! They were so bad at AK that we saw someone flip out their stroller and dump out piles of them after FotLK. They weren't bad everywhere, all the time, but at certain times, they were horrible. Very yucky, but didn't ruin our trip at all.

We left WDW on the 14th, and we saw a few love bugs (never knew this was their name, but I knew as soon as I saw this thread that it must mean those bugs that fly in pairs), and, of course, my dd hates them, so we were lucky that there weren´t many.

I think they are only really bad for about a week then they start slacking off. We have them here and that is how it is. They also come when cooler weather is coming in the near future. ;) So, hopefully, they will be slacking up when we get there in 3 days. :teeth:
