How are the lines? Is it worth $50 to get their version of FastPass?

I haven't been to Universal for almost ten years. We are going in the middle of May. What are the lines like? I noticed on their web site that they offer something similar to fast pass. I can' remember what they call it. Is it worth the money? We are trying to do both parks in one day!!!!

I checked all the dates for the middle of the month of May, and none of the dates were $50. As long as you aren't going on a Saturday, I doubt that you will even need express.

Assuming you are staying offsite, if they are available for the day you want to go, it would be worth looking into. I got them for our last day at the parks just so we can get access to rides we may have missed. They only allow you one use per ride/attraction.
You need to know which day you want them for and there are different prices for different days. Ours were $40 each for the day. They are available through the website just look at the ticket page and you'll see the link.

Wanted to add that we are going in April when the parks are busier.

If you are trying to do both parks in one day, you are a hearty soul indeed.

I'm assuming that means no shows at US, because there are quite a few of them.

I think you would benefit from UXP. Even when some lines don't seem like they are going to be too long, a few will surprise you. And the Express system works so well, it really and truly is Front of the Line. Look at it this way: you are in for a long day with a lot of walking no matter what. Just walking IOA is a huge undertaking. Why wait on any lines on top of that?

Here is my suggestion. Wait until you are in the parks and have ridden a few rides before you decide to purchase the express pass. It is very difficult to judge lines from outside of the park. Once you are in for a while, you'll get a better feel for how busy the park actually is. The pass is available throughout the parks at gift shops.

Thanks to all of you that responded. I got some great advice. Gotta love the Disboards!!

The middle of May has moderate crowds, the kids are just getting out of school. If you show up early, you won't need the express passes. But some people like to sleep in and arrive at 11am. This is the worst time to arrive because that's when everyone shows up, and they all want to go on the same rides as you.
The parking garage opens at 8am, if you go at this time the lines are short for 2 hours.

i have found that the schools do more of their field trips in the middle of may

get to the garage to park before 8
be in the ticket turnstyle line by 8:15

UO is known to let the guests in early when there is a long line.

eat during off times and hit the big rides in the beginning of the day.

you will do fine.

go and enjoy !

We're also going in may and after reading some may trip reports (in which there were 60-70 minute lines for the popular rides) we decided to buy the Express Passes online. We only paid $15 for them for our days (may 8 and may 13), and we think that's quite a good deal!
