How are tables assigned at the dinner shows?

I have read that the tables are assigned as the ressie is made, but the CM on the phone said that the table assignments are made as the tickets are purchased.

She said the tickets can be purchased at any resort guest services window up to 7 days before the ressie.

We arrive 3 days before our dinner show ressie. Is there a way to purchase these tickets at the 7-day window and pick them up when we arrive?

I am hoping for a good table at HDD.

Thanks for your input!

I believe your table is assigned when the reservation is made.

I booked HDD about a year and a half in advance. I picked my tickets up at Guest Services on the day we checked in which was in fact about three hours before the actual dinner.

My table was actually touching the stage. I would safely bet that it is based on when the reservation is made.

On the other hand, if you are late for the show and you don't check in at the proper time, you will lose you assigned table.

We've been twice. The first time we made the ressie a few months out and had a great table up close to the stage. The second time, we made it much closer to the date (the trip was on the fly). We were in the very back of the mail level, some might call it the worst table in the place. We had a great time, great view and were even highlighted for our sons birthday! Dont sweat it.

A couple of years ago, we made ressies for HHD months before our trip, but had to cancel them. Then, a couple of weeks before our trip we made ressies for HHD again and our table was front row center. Not sure how that happened, but we were thrilled!

There really is not a bad seat for HDDR. We just saw it for the first time and were seated in the balcony and loved it! It was a last minute trip and we only called a week before our trip to get reservations so I knew we would not be getting great seats. However we could see everything very well and a few of the show cast members even came up to visit those of us in the balcony. Don't sweat where you're going to sit you'll have a great time!

People making last minute reservations may receive good seat locations when others cancell their reservations. At least this is what I was told. I'm sure it depends on the size of your party also.
