Food good? Worth using a TS credit? Are there any limits on the DDP? Which one would you choose (and my kids have never been to DTD to shop/play or to the AKL)?

Thanks!

BOMA consistently gets high reviews from this site & others. It is a buffet with Americanized African dishes (meaning mainly spiced down and made a little more familiar). We personally found the buffet foood to be excellent every time we have been there. No exclusions b/c it is all the same buffet. Capt-n-Jacks consistently gets poor reviews here and on other sites I've visitied. For every person who says it is good, there are 3 or 4 that say it is terrible. i think the upside (and the reason some people eat there) is that you can get the lobster tails on the DDP.

We really loved BOMA when we stayed at AKL and my DS (the picky eater!) requested it for our upcoming trip. The soups are excellent! If you've never been to the AKL, it's also definitely worth a trip to see the resort and spend some time looking on the different savannahs.

we eat there last Thursday night and won't do it again, he thought with the name they would have seafood on menu, nope no seafood for meal, we ended up with roast beef that wasn't goos either, I really seen no sense in going to Dis to eat roast beef that was piled on the middle of my plate and service was very slow, I tell you the eatery that got out attention most was the fifty's prime time. One night we did have ressies for later in the night I stopped by almost two hours early and they said they could set us then, we met up with my teenage grand daughter two days later and told her how much fun it was and she wanted to go so we stopped back by without any ressies and they set us in less then 10 minutes around 4:30 and she loved the place.

If I had to choose one, I would pick Boma's. It was fun walking around AKL and the outside area (saw lots of animals). Food is very good. Captain Jacks was ok. We went for lunch and were in a hurry so we probably didn't pay much attention to the food.

Thanks to all! Guess we're trying Boma.

We enjoyed both, but if I had to choose between them, Boma wins hands down.

We went to Capt Jacks for lobster, because they're the only 1TS restaurant that serves it and DH is a lobster nut. The food was good but nothing extraordinary or terribly memorable (except the key lime pie, which was great!), but the menu is limited and the atmosphere isn't anything special IMO. We'd go back for the lobster if we were on the DDP and had a night free, but it wouldn't be my first choice for DTD now that Raglan Road is there.

Boma, OTOH, was really great. Interesting, delicious foods that were unique without being too weird even for my meat & potatoes DH and my kids (who were 4 & 7 on that trip), and one of the best servers I've ever had anywhere. He was very knowledgable about the many South African wines they offer, and made some great recommendations. From start to finish it was just a very, very nice experience, especially considering that it is a buffet.

We love the Boma and eat there on most of our trips.

We tried Captn Jacks the last time we were there and it was good. I really loved the crab cakes!! I thought they were actually better than the ones that had at Kona Cafe which were also good. Dh and I both had the twin lobster tails and we thought they were good but not great. We might eat there again but with so many other great places to eat we might not.

Another vote for Boma! Have to say that I haven't try Captain Jack, but Boma was excellent for DH, both my kids and me. The soups are excellent, the salmon, the roast beef and the deserts... oh my!
My kids LOVED the Mac & cheese there, and the service was excellent too.
Go Boma! :goodvibes

We love Boma! I highly recommend it to everyone who asks. Make sure that you save room for dessert - because they always have some amazing choices!:thumbsup2
