How are cancellations of individuals within reservations handled?

Trying to think of best way to make a reservation when not sure of ultimate number who will cruise......Considering booking a year in advance, I am 99% sure that both children will be with us. My question is how it is handled if we make a change in the number of cruisers.

For example, if we book now and the cost for a triple is $2000, a quad is $2400 (making up numbers for this example) and we book the quad.

Just before the 60-day deadline for final payment we determine that my daughter will not go on that particular trip. Will our total cost revert to the $2000 or is there some adjustment in that at that time (60 days out) the cost is now $3000 for the triple, $3600/quad? Or the reverse, if we book at the triple rate, then add my daughter would it be a set amount, or somehow tied to when we made the reservation or when we made the addition.

Hope someone is following this and can shed some info. Of course, I can call the TA tomorrow, but you know how sometimes you just want an answer sooner.......thanks!

Book everyone and all the units you think you will need. If you cancel before the final payment deadline, they will simply drop your price by the original amount attributed to the person or persons you cancel. If the price is $1000 for each for each of the first 2 adults then $500 for the two extras, if you cancel one, you're price will go down by $500. The reverse is not true, if you had three and wanted to add one, you'd get charged the price at the time you added even if it's far more than the add on when you originally scheduled.

The real question is this and I don't know the answer for DCL. If you have four in a sleep 4 and go to 3, will they change your unit to one that only sleeps four so they can free up a cabin for a family of four?

We had a handicapped room booked for our cruise and Matt passed away a few weeks before we were going to go and when I called to cancel him they didn't move us out of the handicap room.

Aprilgail: I am sorry for your loss.

We booked a room for 4 and then had to cancel the 4th party. They applied her deposit to the remainder owing. They did not move us from a room that would sleep 4.

Thanks.
I ended up loosing most of what I paid for Matt....pre-existing conditions get you every time with insurance! I didn't even really try to get it back, they said "this is how much you will loose" and I was just like "yea fine whatever"...had other things on my mind at the time....I think because we cancelled him a few weeks prior to his death, we knew there was no way he was going to make it and I think I lost 600 or something like that, I don't remember the exact number...

I know some other cruise lines will sometimes move you in this situation. I'm sure it could also happen on DCL but glad to hear it's not the norm.
