I see hydro guys tips on fast passes, but thats a lot of running, Im old. How about doing 2 lands a day, getting fast passes and just staying in 2 lands and seeing every little detail, eating in these lands, and not running all over the place? I will be there 6 days, Im sure I have enough time for 2 lands a day for 6 days right? That way we will go to tomorrowland and fantasyland, see the fire works and all there is there for the day, going back to our room to sleep. collecting the fast passes for these lands off and on all day and playing again at night when the fire works are done?

The the next night doing 2 more lands, seeing fantasmic collecting fast passes thru out the day, ride the train, an d see all there is to see there? eating in these lands ?

I mean there is so much running around to collect fast passes, how about collecting just for those lands that day, then we are not all over the park getting exausted ?

we have early morning entry one day so we thought we would use that for the last day, then do all the rides we loved, before we leave the next day.

Quite honestly, if you have never been there before, I think that you will be surprised to see how compact the park is. Sure, there are a few outlying areas (Critter Country and Toontown), but that is more of a result of the fact that there is only one way to access each of these areas than how big the park is The scale of the park is such that I think that you will find that you can easily do way more in a day that you might be thinking.

Also, there really aren't all that many rides that have FP--none in Fantasyland and New Orleans Square, one each in Toontown, Adventureland, Critter Country and Frontierland, and three in Tomorrowland. Thus, collecting FPs really doesn't set you up for a full day of rides, although it is important to get them, especially if you want to ride Space, Splash or Indy anytime after 11 am!

Six days is a lot of time. We have only ever done a four day trip to DLR and usually do three.

My FP threads are titled something like "Getting the Most Out of FP..." People like yourself who may not want to "get the most out of FP" should by all means do things however feels comfortable to you.

I also suggest that people park hop every day. Even multiple times. But that involves more walking. For people who want to minimize walking they should probably minimize park hopping too. Will they experience less? Well, yes. But they may be happier with the slower pace. And they may see more detail as you mention. Do what suits you. Six days is a lot of time so you can see a lot even at a slower pace with less walking. :)

Im on a scooter, so running around collecting may be hard in crowds in August. I think your reports are awesome and I wish I could do all that running, but I think seeing all there is in 2 lands, ( and there is a lot of detail I have never seen ) then going back to the room for a few hours, then swimming eating , come back to DCA and do there fun afternoon rides ( getting fast pass on the way out of Disneyland) seeing a show etc. that may be the routh to go for folks who can not run collecting.
Also when the park at DCA closes, head on over to Disneyland and do more?

I LOVE taking Disneyland in small bits. Yes, it is very compact, but I hate criss-crossing all over the Park. Also, I LOVE taking the time to look at all the ittle details (which, given, I have the ability to do since I live locally and can go anytime) that I am SURE commando park-goers miss - which is sad as they are part of what make the Park so special.

You have 6 days. You have time to take it slow if you want. :wizard:

I might suggest:

- Main Street, Fantasyland, Toontown, Tomorrowland
- New Orleans Square (including the riverfront), Critter Country
- Frontierland, Adventureland
- one day for DCA

And you have extra days to do stuff you missed or repeat things you loved.

Have a great trip,
Dreams

HydroGuy does have a lot of great tips, but not all of them work for every single person. You kind of have to take any info you get here in DISboards and customize your own trip and go at your own pace. You said you are "old," and I don't know how old you are (everyone is ageless at Disneyland!;)), but believe me, even younger people don't always like running around a lot and going back and forth and backtracking, etc. You don't need to tire yourself out to enjoy DLR. Everyone should absolutely do what is comfortable for them. And I think your plan is a great one - because there are so many wonderful, special little details about DLR - especially DL - and many of them are off the beaten path or easily obscured by crowds and other things, so taking the time to really soak them all in is crucial - especially in a 6-day trip. You can even just devote a whole day to roaming around leisurely and taking pictures or looking in shops and not even worrying about rides if you feel like it. Try to make sure you eat at least once at the charming Carnation Cafe on Main Street and at Wine Country Trattoria in DCA. Maybe even stroll around the grounds of the Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian Hotel and enjoy the hotels' restaurants and ambience. Sit in the huge, spacious lounge of the GCH and sip a beverage in a comfy chair to unwind for the day.

Have a fantastic time!!:goodvibes

what you say is totally right on !! I have been five times, gone comando style and while I rode everything numerous times I missed seeing inside the shops, and seeing all the details. I still can not figure out where pixy hollow is :lmao: I will not be going back to disneyland, this is a trip for my 7 year old grandson and I want him to see the details and all the sites because I raise him and 2 others and I have to much on my plate now. With aging parents, Disneyland is not going to be possible any longer after this time ( dad has Alzheimer's)
I took all my babies to Disneyland now, seeing it my self only 5 years ago and every year since , now its time to say good by. Instead of doing it commando, I am going to take it slow, and follow a plan. I have reservations already for cafe Orleans, carnation cafe, wine country tratoria, the jazz kitchen, rain forest, and the Espn zone. Im still trying to fit the blue bayou in for him as well.
I want to make this trip special for him, and on the other hand I want to remember the details I missed. I also have never had a turkey leg, a slushy drink in DCA, or eaten in any of the fancy restaurants except 2 times. ( blue bayou and cafe Orleans )
We travel several states to get there so going more often is not a possibility.
Hydro guys tips are wonderful, but I can not run to those places so we are going to have to do what we can in a day and call it a day. :)

I have to agree with this. Not all advice fits everyone and how they want to tour. I am also considered "old" but I enjoy being the person who gets the passes. I get to see how things are going on in the parks and have a tendancy to adjust what were are doing based on observation.

FWIW, my tips are not about commando. They are more about being aware of how you use your time.

Personally I hate to waste time while at a Disney park. A relaxed pace is not wasted time IMO. But waiting in long lines unnecessarily is wasted time - usually. At least to me it is. :)

Oh I know, if I sounded like I did Im sorry :) I get exactly what you are saying, I will do my best to get fast passes to the parts we will be in that day, maybe even using the train now that I found out it can take scooters! ( just not at the front street station. I was told last night I could take the train from tomorrowland and have it take me to the opther parts to ride rides with out having to run from place to place ( especially at night during fantasmic )

Made me first trip last year; going again this year. What are those little things that I may have missed the last time?

You have more than enough days to do it HOWEVER you feel!

I must be the only nutcase who sorta LIKES waiting in lines so I can people watch LOL

Actually, we quite often organise our time around lands, and it works fine. yes, do it that way by all means. For example, we would do fantasyland as MM, then trot down to the adventureland/frontierland area. Pick up your indy pass, then ride Big thunder, round to the HM, POC, Jungle cruise, (pick up a splash Fp, ride Winnie ...you get the picture.

Then the next day you can do the subs pick up Fp for Space, ride buzz etc etc etc

You can max your time hopping parks and lands, but you can also have a good time, with little queuing, if you target what you want to do in a day, and use the general rules of thumb... ride FP rides later, ride standby rides earlier.

I think your plan is fine......but with 6 days you will have time to add DCA, DD, and the resort hotels to the plan :).

To me, too.

In the winter, I'm kinda with you on that. In the summer? No. I also like having more than a millisecond to see line details. :)

(in re-reading, I seem to be contradicting myself...but if I have a good time in the lines, then it's not a waste of time, it's not unnecessary, if you know what I mean)

I think the 2 land a day *plan* is a nice one! Focus on the word plan, b/c of course you might find yourself all detailed out and want to change the plan. You might also find yourself exploring FL, then think "well is Matterhorn here or there", or get to Small World then just move into TT...etc etc.

We spent quite a bit of time in Critter Country on this trip (4 times on Splash, 2 times (which is low) on Pooh and other things in 1.5 days) and it was really nice being in there! I've always been a fan of the little view you get cmoing out of Winnie's ride at Yule time, but I saw that even the bright sunshine was pretty in there.

I know we were in all the lands on this trip, but it felt like we gave solid chunks of time to each area, and I liked that quite a bit more than running all over.

Yes, we will do DCA also planning to do a full day here on sunday, then head over to disneyland after it closes. the parks close earlier the last 3 days of our trip, so most likely we will stay in disneyland 2 of those days, Im assuming there are no fire works or fantasmic these days so it should be pretty good :)

One thing to consider with using Fastpasses is that you are going back and forth between attractions and you are always watching the time (time to get the next Fastpass and time to get in the attraction). Often times this takes you from one land to another before you've finished seeing everything in the first land. One way I like to approach the day is to pick a land and stay in it with whatever Fastpass might be available there. That way you can stay in the "magic" of that land. The wait times overall are about the same, but you stretch out the time you spend in one particular land.

For the bigger attractions that always have long wait times (Space Mountain, Indy, etc.) having a Fastpass is about the only way to see them without waiting a long time in the queue. For those you have do just do your best.

I agree that the Fastpass/commando method is the most efficient and I used to do that a lot. Now days I enjoy spending more times with the details. I can easily spend 2 days at DCA just to really see everything.

As other have said, with 6 days you'll have enough time to either take your time, or speed up for a while. And be sure to spend some time at the hotels and Downtown Disney.

Well yeah, I don't wanna wait in 95 degree heat in the sun for 2 hours to people watch LOL. But yeah I like being able to see some of the lines. Indiana Jones, I LOVE waiting in line for. LOVE IT. When we walk on it's almost anticlimatic lol
