How about crowds during the marathon?

We are going with a friend who will be running in the marathon on January 9, 2005. Extra crowds that day? Should we avoid the parks altogether that day due to the marathon running through all of them? What about the week after the marathon? Any extra crowds?

We visited during marathon 2003 and there really wasn't any significant increase in crowds in the parks. Just be aware that there may be temporary road closures the morning of the race, and that the early entry schedule may be rearranged.
