How about a Wiki

Would you be interested in contributing to a Disney Photography Wiki? I think it might a fun and useful project. It could also be used almost as a FAQ for this site.

We could have a section for equipment, including links to reviews, why I like brand X, model specific FAQs, lens recommendations, etc. We could have another section on general photography technique. Another section could be devoted to tips on shooting at different Disney places. We could also have a section for sharing photos (which scrapbookers would love).

I thought about working on a Disney Photography book (I love the idea of tax deductable Disney trips and camera equipment), but I think it's too ambitious for me right now. A Wiki, on the other hand, would be a relatively easy to start collaborative project that would accomplish the same goals (except the tax deductions).

Any interest?

Let me know what I can do to help. Like you, my available time is limited, but it is a good idea and I would like to help.

The first step is a name. I will thow one out... Disney Wiki Pics
Any other ideas anyone?

Kevin

For those of us who are slightly technology challenged, what exactly is a Wiki and how does it work?

My kids use Wikipedia a lot, and I know that it's an online encyclopedia where users register and then they can add to/comment on things that are posted. (Also sounds like they shouldn't be relying on Wikipedia to do their homework - they may be getting wrong info, huh?) Is that the general gist of things?

Barrie already set one up. Unfortunately, I don't think it got much activity.

I toyed with the idea of setting up a Disney photography-related site with a wiki, FAQ, etc, but that's when Barrie set up the Wiki, so I sat back... I could still go ahead and do it, I have a ton of web space and bandwidth available, and domain names are reasonably cheap. If someone wants to collaborate on such a project, I'd be all for it.

And again, I also have been toying with the idea of a book... I have a rough outline in my head, who knows if it'll actually make its way out of there and onto a PC screen and eventually to print some day...

I'd be interested - where's the one Barrie set up? Can we rekindle the flames?

Yeah I wouldn't totaly rely on Wikipedia for homework. Like you said users add to/comment on it and it may contain wrong info.

Here's the one I set up: http://wdwphotos.wikispaces.com/

It's just bare bones and as Groucho said it didn't get any action. I have been planning to delete it but just never got around to it. So it's there and can be changed or added to by anyone - have at it! (I protected it to keep out the spammers so you have to send me your email so I can send you an invitation.)
