How about a do you remember thread

Yes! I remember those as well and always wanted the pitcher, too. Was the grape called Goofy Grape?

check out ebay-someone's selling 5 of the original mugs right now (current bids at less than $20). you might be able to find one of the pitchers.

fess up-how many of you snitched your parent's matches and actualy lit the end of your candy cigarettes??? it made them taste like scorched marshmallows.

LOL. Yeah, remember "punks". I think they were intended to keep mosquitos away. But we pretended they were cigarettes *starlet* style.;)

I remember when you had to open pop or beer cans with a can opener (triangular end). It was a huge day when they started putting the tabs on the cans. Also, when our parents allowed us to buy a case of bottled pop when it was payday. That brings up my other memory of pop coming in bottles only. Sodie pop was so much better then.

remember some of the 'front men' for products that were later dropped because they were deemed offensive to certain people?

i remember the 'frito bandito'. 'ay-yi, yi, yi-i am the frito bandito, i like fritos cornchips i love them i do, i take fritos cornchips away from you'. i had a pencil top eraser of him that came in a bag of chips-worked pretty well if you did'nt mind your homework smelling like corn chips:rotfl2:

i remember 'sambos' being a very popular chain of coffee shops-and the menu had pictures from 'little black sambo'-and item's like 'tiger butter covered pancakes'.

Yes, I remember the Frito Bandito! How un-pc! My 6th grade social studies teacher collected them (probably after confiscating them from kids) and had them lined up on the top of his blackboard.

i agree-to this day i can't drink soda out of plastic bottles, it tastes nasty to me.

do you remember when some grocery stores had some kind of in store soda system? you took your clean bottles back and they had a machine where you picked out the flavor which they mixed with carbonated liquid and refilled the bottles. then you had to take them to the 'capping' machine and recap them. it was'nt popular for very long-but i remember some of the larger chains on the west coast putting them in all their stores and marketing it as a way to save money.

speaking of 'tabs'-i was thrilled when i found a local market near our old home that sold traditional tab in the same old pink cans.

I remember both quite well. It's amazing that they both existed, when you think about it. As a kid growing up in the early 70's, I remember seeing the Sambo restaurants all over the place and then by the early 80's they all had disappeared. I remember most of them being bought out and changed into Denny's.

Our first REAL cartoon on tv was Inky Dinky doo and we would put this cover on the screen of the tv set and then we had black markers and we would be able to draw with them......what neat inventions back then.....it is only one channel to choose from...
YES I TOLD YOU I WAS OLD.......rofl...

It is fun to reminise with you all.........thanks....:goodvibes

ALSO we had the state come to each city in Maine and they would spray for mosquitos and black flies .....you had to shut your windows and move your vehicles off the street because the ddt would peel the paint right off the cars....BUT no mosquitos and no black flies back then.....

I remember almost everything on this thread.

One of my favorite drinks in the summer was this stuff called Funny Face drink mix. It was powedered sugar and you added water to it, and it if you bought enough of it they sent you a Funny Face pitcher. I love all the names of the different flavors:

Jolly Olly Orange
Lefty Lemon
Loud Mouth Lime
Rootin Tootin Rasberry
Freckle Face Strawberry
Choo Choo Cherry

And a bunch others that I can't remember the names of. I do remember a grape one that I loved but can't remember that either. They took them off the shelves in the late 70s because they contained cyclamates. I think they were brought back for a short while in the 80s but they were never the same. Some stuff you can't change the formula, even if its poison. :p

We sent away for a buch of the cups when we were kids. I think the grape and orange ones are still at my parents' house.

Pop Shoppe? We had Pop Shoppe's here and you could get all kinds of cool flavors of soda. Loved that place!

HOw about paperdolls? I used t paly with them for hours. I remember having a set with George and Martha Washington - hahahah.
I was soo jealous of my sister's "Lennon Sisters" paper dolls, when I was stuck with "Little Lulu" ones.

Remember making chains out of the pull off tabs? They had one of those hanging up in the Foreman's basement on "That 70s Show".

How about Fuzzy Wuzzy Bear soap? Loved that bear. I heard years later that it was nothing but mold:scared1:

It was mold??? NOOOO! I loved my fuzzy wuzzy bear soap! We would get a new one from Santa every year!

I remember that. I think they tried to compete with Kool AId. It was goofy grape!

Yup! Remember making braceletes and necklaces by folding and connecting gum wrappers?

My favorite was making them from fruit strip gum, they were very colorful!

I remember those straws for chocolate and strawberry milk. I saw something similar in Walgreens a little while back and commented on them. The cashier said she was amazed at how many "older" people said they had them when they were kids.

Anyone remember Romper Stompers?

Yep, I had a pair and the inch worm that you rode..anyone remember that?

Also, I was telling my kids the other day about some of the stuff my siblings and I played with back in the 60s and 70s when we were growing up. They of course got that glazed over look, they just couldn't understand how we could have lived without video games? And I really think they felt a little sorry for me after I told them I could play jacks on my front porch with my sister or one of my little girlfriends for hours. :rotfl: Of course the cheap jacks they know of were nothing compared to the good metal kind we had back in the day.

Some other long ago toys:

Lemon Twist: Does anyone remember this? It was this lemon attached to a string which was attached to this band that went around your ankle. You would sort of swing the lemon in a circle and jump over it. I LOVED that thing, would play with it for hours.

Other outside games I played for hours: Four Square, Jump Rope, Chinese Jump Rope, Red Rover, Mother May I, Hide and Go Seek, TV Tag. We also would lay in the grass and look for 4 leaf clovers or lady bugs. Finding either one was a real highlight, even if it was your friend and not you who found it.

Also, clackers. Two GLASS balls attached to a string that you clacked back and forth. We all had them until some kid down the street broke his, the glass flew across the room and almost put his baby sister's eye out. Of course the story got bigger and bigger each time, until the baby was BLINDED by the clackers. Clackers all around the neighborhood were gathered up and disposed of, never to be seen again. :( They came out with plastic ones a few years later, but again, they just weren't the same as the original.

Board games we loved: Hands Down (big fights ensued with this one), ****y Trap, Battleship (You Sank My Battleship!), Monopoly, The Game of Life, Go To The Head of the Class, Mystery Date. Again, board games kept us entertained for hours. We have lots of board games around here that I've tried to get my boys interested in, and they do like them a bit, but there is just so much other visual stimulation, its just impossible to create that sort of innocence that we had growing up. :(
