So a few weeks ago I told my 16 year old to go through her clothes and put what she doesn't wear anymore in a bag and we would donate it to the goodwill. I never thought about it again until today when getting the suitcases down for an overnight trip what do I find....a suitcase full of summer clothes. So here goes the conversation.

Me: Casandra what are all these clothes doing in the suitcase?
Casandra: I packed them for Disney
Me: We are not leaving for two months, why are you packed already and where did all these clothes come from?
Casandra: they are just all the old clothes I won't wear anymore.
Me: Then why are they packed for Disney?
Casandra: I am going to wear them when we are there and then I am going to throw them out so I can have an empty suitcase to bring back all the stuff I am going to buy.

So I ask you
Just how much stuff does a 16 year old need to buy that she is planning to throw clothes in the garbage...:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

Actually, I've seen this "tip" in a travel book before. (I think it related more to travel to a thrid world country where you could donate the old clothes as you went to lighten your load....)

But hey, she's thinking! :)

:rotfl: :rotfl:

Oh, I love your daughter! What a girl, already thinking about the stuff she's gonna buy and how to get it back. I hope you have lots of money!:goodvibes :goodvibes

That's pretty funny. But I am a little surprised that she is willing to be seen in public in clothes she wants to get rid of. Teens can be very focused on outside appearances.

Smart girl you have there.

Considering that airlines are charging per bag, it might be one of the best ideas I heard for a while:rotfl:

Lol, that is too funny! Looks like she has it all planned out.

I've actually heard tips like this here on the DIS - people taking older clothing that they no longer want and then just getting rid of it. That would never work for me, I like to wear new clothes on vacation, lol.

My daughter will be 16 when we go to Disney for the 1st time, and she has a "plan" as well, very unlike your daughter's though. Mine told me that she is going to take a tote bag (the kind that folds flat) and put in in the bottom of her luggage - that way she will have a "carry on" bag to put all of her Disney souvenirs in. Then she told me that we all needed to do this so that we would have plenty of room to bring stuff home.

I guess they both plan to do ALOT of shopping, lol.

That is perfect - and very logical to the mind of a teenager, I'm sure. My DD, 6, wanted to pack for our DLR trip so I put a suitcase in her room planning to repack just before the trip so I could bring what I thought she needed. It was interesting to say the least. We had Christmas and Halloween themed clothes for our May trip. ;) Neeless to say, when it came time to repack, little she'd selected actually made the cut.

I've also been going through the closet for pre-school clothes shopping (and I'm not a teen-ager) and I bought new underwear and socks for the boys for school. The old ones will go in a ziploc bag earmarked for our June '09 WDW trip and I will throw them away after they've been worn.

Her way of thinking is that even if she won't wear them here anymore she can get away with it at WDW because she won't see anyone she knows. :rotfl:

I am the same way! I have been buying new summer clothes all summer and it has been really hard not to break into them for something different to wear. We are leaving in less than a month and I think I am going to take out all the new underwear, bras, socks and wash them today and pack them in the packing cubes I bought for each of us. That will be one less thing to do in a couple of weeks.

I was expecting a list sort of like this

1. Boy friend
2. Best friend, in case she and boyfriend have a fight
3. 10 pair so shoes
4. everything in her closet
5 a suit case, for cosmetics

There's a whole school of thought behind this in the travel books, I say good idea. Plus if she has a whole suitcase empty, maybe she'll let you use part of it as well. :thumbsup2

I asked her about the pictures because I hadn't thought about that and she said the clothes are all fine I just don't wear them anymore...
I have even started thinking its a good idea, I love to shop and then can bring more back.
