Ex-Speaker of the House and former Texas congressman Jim Wright's dreaded 'Wright Amendment' is the SOLE reason why airfares from DFW on American (which has a monopoly of well over 75% of the flights in & out of there) are MUCH higher than those on Southwest out of Dallas Love Field.
Southwest cannot fly non-stop to more than a handful of states from that airport, although they can (and do) fly non-stop from Austin, Houston Hobby & San Antonio to tons of cities with
no meddling from a clueless Democratic congressman.
Consequently, if you live in a city with a single dominant carrier among the six 'legacy carriers' enjoying a monopoly, driving a short distance can save you
tons of money in many cases, and especially when the city you're flying to is a Southwest Airlines city.
Go to the website for the Dallas Morning News (
www.dallasnews.com) and put the words 'Wright Amendment, Southwest Airlines and/or American Airlines in the search box, and prepare to be disgusted if you're a Dallas resident, or plan to fly there.
