This is a question for my daughter, who has been accepted for Spring Advantage. Are there rules in the apartments about what you can hang on the walls in the bedrooms or anywhere else in the apartment? I know some dorms are very strict about these rules so it would be nice to know the restrictions as she starts to plan what to take. Any other rules to be aware of when she starts her packing later this month? Thanks.

Each bed has a corkboard next to it and there is one in the living room as well. That is the only place she will be allowed to hang anything.

There are a lot of rules. Most are pretty obvious-- no weapons, no pets, no alcohol in a wellness apartment, etc. But then there are others that she might not think about. Don't open windows. Don't hang towels/blankets on the railing on the balcony. If she does either of those, security will come knocking on her door and they probably won't be nice about it.

The corkboard thing is new. Didn't have those spring 2010

And hanging things on the balcony.. must be new too.

Its strict but not too terrible.

Thanks for the information. I would never have thought that you are not allowed to open the windows!

Remember that Florida is basically one big swamp. Lots of critters still call developed areas their home.

The most benign things that can get in are little gecko lizards and frogs. But there are also snakes and spiders (still benign, but scarier than lizards and frogs).

And then you have Palmetto Bugs... which are large roaches. Very large roaches. Very large roaches with wings. And they can fly.

One got in our apartment... I went to kill it... it flew at me and got in my hair. I thought I was going to die.

You don't want to leave anything open and encourage these unwanted house guests.

I see. I am used to screens on windows so I never thought about creatures coming in through the windows. Yeah, I would be keeping the windows closed regardless of the rules.:thumbsup2

All of these small rules are also explained during the housing orientation on check-in day, or the day after

Oh so critters coming in is the reason... hows the ventilation of the rooms? Usually like airing mine out sometimes
