Has anyone rented a house at Emerald Island Resort? We have rented homes in the Kissimmee area on two occasions and had a great time. This year ten of us (yes 10) are renting a beautiful 5 bdrm pool home in Emerald Island Resort. We were wondering what the community is like. Where is the Clubhouse and volleyball courts in relationsip to the single family homes? Can we walk or must we drive? How long does it take to get to WDW? Emerald Island Resort is right off 192 and just south of Sledid China.

Welcome to the DIS, Keacc! I'm very glad that you found us and I hope you can visit often.

I'm going to move this to our Orlando Hotel's and Attractions board, for you. I imagine the veterans over there will offer excellent advice on this topic.

Hi Keacc and Welcome to the Dis! I have not personally stayed at Emerald Island, but know someone who has and they thought it was a GREAT resort! We stayed at Windsor Palms this last February which is a little south of Emerald Island on the same road. It is on the same road as Spendid China and there is a shortcut to get to WDW. After you turn right at the lights by Spendid China, go to the first traffic lights which is Sherberth Road. Take a left on Sherberth and follow the signs to WDW. It will take you about 8 minutes to get to Animal Kingdom from your resort, depending on traffic of course. You're going to love your location! Have a great time! If you have any questions, feel free to PM me.:teeth:

Hello,

We have stayed many many times and owned a home in Emerald Island. I think you will find that it will exceed all your expectations for location, beauty, and quality of homes.
I am cutting and pasting our "quick and easy" directions from Emerald Island to Disney via Sherberth Road.
If you have any specific questions, please let us know.

Enjoy..Ted

Super short cut to Disney World
Drive back to HIGHWAY 192. Turn RIGHT and go one block to SHERBERTH RD. Turn LEFT. Follow Sherberth Rd. 1.2 MILES (it will twist and turn at the end) to a 4-way stop.

As you head down Sherberth Road look straight ahead. See THE TALL TREE THAT IS HIGHER THAN THE OTHERS AND A LITTLE DIFFERENT COLOR OF GREEN/..THAT IS THE TREE OF LIFE IN ANIMAL KINGDOM1

At the stop light, on your left will be Animal Kingdom Lodge. Turn RIGHT and Animal Kingdom will appear on your left. Take the first left for Animal Kingdom Parking. For all other Disney Parks go straight and follow the signs. This is just 6 minutes or less from your home.
NOW!!! If and ONLY IF traffic to Disney is backed up past Formosa Gardens Blvd when you get to the 192 intersection. (this can happen during very busy times), turn LEFT out of Formosa Gardens Blvd. onto HIGHWAY 192 and drive west to BLACK LAKE RD. Turn RIGHT on BLACK LAKE ROAD and take it back to Sherberth Rd and then turn left on Sherberth and proceed to the stop sign. Works GREAT!

To EXIT Disney
Follow the signs from inside the park to ANIMAL KINGDOM. As you approach Animal Kingdom stay LEFT and follow the signs to Animal Kingdom Lodge. When you get to the stoplight, turn LEFT on to Sherberth to HIGHWAY 192. Turn RIGHT(West) on 192 and back to Formosa Garden Blvd. You are now a Disney Pro at getting around!

can you tell me if the directions you gave are essentially the same if we are coming from Windsor Palms? We're booking a condo there in December and with 2 kids in the car, every second saved driving is a plus.

Thanks.

Yes, same directions if you come out on Formosa Gardens Blvd..Ted

Hi again Ted. I hope I don't get on your nerves too much before our trip with all my questions.

We just booked a home in Acadia Estates. The website says it's one of the newer sites and that they are still building on it. It must be pretty new, because I can't find the estate here:
http://www.orlando-internationaldrive.com/map/map1/idrivemap1.htm#idrivemap1btm

I've seen Formosa Gardens etc., but do you know if Acadia is the same "Point of Entry" as Formosa would be?

My question would ultimately be: Are there any shortcuts to Universal Studios and Sea World from Acadia Estates? Would the above shortcuts work for us too? Thanks Ted! :bounce:

This isn't Ted but we stayed at Indian Creek last Christmas. Indian Creek is just south of Acadia Estates, it would be across the road from Formosa Gardens. They were building when we were there end of DEC first of Jan. Walked by it many times but never walked around it, as too much construction going on. It looked really, really nice though. I have been looking for a web site with some homes from that estate but haven't come across any yet. I was just curious about it. You could use Ted's shortcuts :sunny:

Hi...Totally agree. As far as I know there is no shortcut to Universal or Sea World Yet from Formosa Gardens Blvd.. In Theory, you could keep going south on Formosa Gardens and hit I-4 but I don't think there is an on ramp.

Might be fun for you to try. If you could pick up I-4 south on Formosa Gardens past Acadia it would be a lot slicker than going back to 192 and fighting traffic down to I-4 by Disney...

good luck and let us know if there are any new ways to I-4 south on FG Blvd...Ted
