While posting on a different thread, it got me to thinking. Now to start, the last thing I want is my dues to go up. But - currently housekeeping only does a full cleaning after your departure or upon request. And trash and towel midway of your trip. If they changed this around, and did housekeeping every other day - FULL CLEANING, wouldn't you think the rooms would be in better shape? Just curious what others think?

First of all, you DO get full cleaning if you are staying more than 7 nights. We always have a full cleaning on day 4 and Trash and Towel on day 8. I have never had any issues with the full cleaning, and have always been able to change it around if I need to.

I would think a full cleaning every other day would GREATLY increase our dues, and I really doubt it would make a huge difference on the condition issues, since housekeeping isn't catching those things now. They have to be instructed in how to notice and report issues, and obviously that is where the hang up is.

When we are staying in our DVC unit, we do a lot of cleaning and straightening all along. It's not like we let the crumbs pile up on the counters or the floor. We make our beds daily just like we do at home. If the vacuum needs to be run, we do that too. When we get ready to leave, we strip the beds, put all the towels in the tubs, bag up the trash, put the dishes in the dishwasher, empty the fridge, and throw away opened food. Anything unopened we think someone could use, we take out to the parking lot and find a nice guest just moving in who could use it.

I think the real issue is convincing folks to take care of their WDW home the way they do their own home. Of course, maybe there are a lot of slobs out there who don't care for their own home either!!

We are fine with the Housekeeping on the 4th day. We just tell the kids, to pick up after themselves as they would at home. To be honest, I like the fact that no one is in our villa every day. Feels a little more secure.

I'm another one who prefers not to have housekeeping coming in. I'd go pick up my own fresh towels if they let me! I take out the trash anyway, so that's no biggie. If they wanted to come in and do the full cleaning yet on day 8, that's fine with me too since I'd know ahead of time to be gone then.

Although in a global market, Disney also needs to realize that other cultures may live with lower standards.

I do think that yes, more frequent full mousekeeping would reduce needed renovations, but given the expense of labor, still not worthwhile.
I once floated the idea of a voluntary "good guest" program. Allow mousekeeping to give a quick (<1 minute) check of your room, and if your room is rated clean enough, then you get some extra bonus, perhaps extra towel oragamis, (I do miss my daily stuffed animal arrangements that we got in values), pillow mints, or earn enough "points" to get a free FP on your next visit? Just a small reward for the responsible DVC users..

Folks, you have to remember this is a TIMESHARE! There are very few timeshares that offer even as much as we get now. Many require that you do a LOT more than just leave the room when you check out. When we exchanged to Hawaii, we were expected to run ALL the dishes in the dishwasher (even if we hadn't used them), strip the beds, gather the towels together, take out all the trash and leave all closet and cabinet doors open so they could be easily inspected.

I don't feel that this is a big deal. We have been going to disney for years and decided to join the DVC. We love it. I enjoy staying at the villas and not having housekeeping come in our room every day. It's great. We pick up after ourselves and this is not that hard to do. Considering the pleasure of having a timshare at Disney and the advantage of traveling often, it's a small price to pay to pick up a towel or two and make our bed.

Counting down to seven days till our next trip.

We joined recently, and at first I was concerned that I might miss daily housekeeping service. I've only been home to AKV once, but I didn't miss it at all except for one thing: towels. In our family, we use more than 4 washcloths in 4 days. But a quick call to housekeeping, and they brought us a bunch more washcloths (at no charge, when I would've been happy to pay). When we stay in 1 bedrooms in the future, we can just run the towels through the wash while we're out for the day.

While I've never stripped the sheets before, I do pile my dirty towels in the tub so they are easy to grab. Also, we put all our trash in the cans as we go along, so that's no big deal. Also, we'll leave the dishwasher cleaning the dirty dishes on our way to check out.

I've grown to actually like someone not being in my room every day. But I'll get over it for this December when we're at AKV concierge, LOL.

I, too, prefer it every 4 days. I find it a waste to have a cleaning everyday. And I prefer to not have someone in my room every day or every other day. however, I have not yet attempted to change t&t with full cleaning before but it's nice to see that it's an option.

I do wish that it would be the same for any length of stay. I would prefer the t&t on Day 4, then full cleaning on Day 8, t&t on Day 12 and full cleaning when we leave. We usually stay 14 nights, but sometimes 10 nights. And we really only need one full cleaning during our stay. At home, I only wash our sheets once a week and towel twice a week.We do try to keep our rooms clean (especially with two young children).

We pile our dirty towels also near the tub. However, I have not stripped the sheets before. I don't know if they would prefer for us to do this or not.

We also tidy up before they come in and clean to help a little. We run the dishwasher and put them away. I usually do a load of dishes before we use them anyways so I feel that they're clean. So I prefer to handle the dishes and cups etc myself.

Exactly....afterall there is a reason that CM's greet us by saying "Welcome Home."

I think that the rooms WOULD be cleaner if they had daily housekeeping. Maybe it is the rustic wood decor at VWL that attracts the dust. I don't know, but that place can get grubby. The 5 second rule definately DOES NOT apply along the edge of the floors in any room I've been it at VWL - 5 seconds on the floor near a baseboard and any piece of food will be covered in fur. And don't get me started on the fur along the top of the internal room doors - would it kill anyone to run a rag over the top of those?

As far as being a timeshare, Disney books those same rooms we stay at through CRO - you can't tell me that a person who is spending $450+ a night plus taxes for a studio doesn't expect (and deserve) a clean room.

That being said, I actually find the lack of housekeeping to be a perk ... we like to nap midday and it is nice to do that without worrying about housekeeping knocking on my door.

We start the dishwasher, put all towels in a pile in the bathtub and take out any trash on checkout day. We also take out our trash on a daily basis and make our beds and do a quick vacuum if needed. When we're in a 1 or 2 bdrm we don't really need T & T at all because I also wash our towels. The only time I do appreciate T & T is when we have a studio and need the towels. The one thing I haven't done is completely strip the beds.......I leave them unmade on checkout day so housekeeping knows they have all been used. I have to agree though.......I do think some people live like slobs in their own homes so they're certainly not going to take care of a DVC unit any better.

The person paying $450 a night is paying for housekeeping, it's just not a separate charge. At the rates they charge, certainly not "free".

I'm happy with the way it is. If someone wants more housekeeping, they can pay for it. Don't make everyone pay for it by higher dues.

Why on earth would you think that cleanliness is an American exclusive? Cleanliness is not country specific, just as good manners are not country specific.

Nothing at Disney happens by chance, it happens due to a well thought out process.

75% of DVC guests stay less than 7 days so the full cleaning occurs between Guests. Even if the full cleaning was on day 4, the cleaning costs would double.
