Housekeeping @ The Wilderness Lodge and Villas

Sort of off topic, but the door being left open while cleaning reminded me of a rather unpleasant experience we had on a vacation a few years back...

Ok, don't tell anyone, ;) , but we made a weekend trip to Six Flags Over Texas. We were coming back to the hotel to take an afternoon break and as we walked up towards our room we saw a police car parked in front of our room with lights flashing. There was an officer outside the police car and a really scary looking guy sitting in the back seat. Inside our room was another police officer, the maid and the hotel manager.

The maid had been cleaning our room and said that just as she walked out of the bathroom she saw a man walking out the door of the room. She had left the door open while she was cleaning and apparently he walked right in. Her cart was just outside the door, so he had to know she was in there. Who knows why, but she said she just knew something was wrong so she called her supervisor who called the police. They must've been really quick because they caught him in another section of the hotel lurking around. The policeman had us check the room carefully, but nothing was missing.

When we got ready to leave the room a couple of hours later we did a quick room key check and lo and behold we were missing a key! I then remembered that I had only taken one set and left the other set on the dresser that morning ( a mistake I will never make again!). It immediately occurred to me what had happened to the other set. The man who had come into the room must have taken them. I called the desk and they immediately called the police ( they had said something about being sure to report anything we found missing...something about it changing what they could charge him with). At any rate, we were so shaken by the idea that this guy had gotten hold of our room keys and obviously intended to come back later that the hotel just went ahead and switched us to another room. They also comped the room, but really that didn't make us feel a bit better!

The point of all this is please shut my door while you're cleaning the room! It still scares me to this day thinking what this guy could've done had he come back in the middle of the night with only a woman and 2 young girls in the room!

Askmickey,

The door was ajar with the security latch not propped open. That would follow the WL protocol you described. I thought it was bit different than what I have seen at other hotels in my travels since you did not have clear visability into the room.

Not need to apoligize, but thanks! Just was a few little things each day that stood out. The second mousekeeper was as attentive as I have seen in a Four Seasons or Ritz and all the staff was friendly and spoke to us in the hall.

Thanks for your reply and sharing all the great info you do with the board.

Regards.

We stayed at VWL in October (two families in two studios). Our rooms were immaculate! Mom and dad had Studio 4533 I believe and we had the last studio on the third floor facing the bus stop side. Our housekeeper on the 3rd floor was a real sweetie. That room was clean, clean, clean! Even our tiles in the bathroom didn't have any mold or gunk to speak of. I was impressed!

We stayed one night in the main lodge on February 8th in a courtyard view room (looking right at the pool on the 2nd floor) and that room was in good shape also.

We'll be back in May and September/October at the VWL. Can't wait! We tip by the way - I appreciate someone who does a good job.

We were there in December of 2002, staying in the lodge. We had a fabulous mousekeeper, I believe her name was Maria, but I could be wrong. She was so wonderful that on the day she was off, I knew it wasn't her who cleaned our room and told her the enxt day that we missed her. The other person wasn't bad, just not memorable like Maria.

Upon checkout I left a note for her supervisor with the front desk, I hope someone actually got it. She was friendly, and so very nice to my children. Our room was beautifully kept and her towel creations always added sparkle to my childrens eyes when we returned to the room.

We were at VWL March 11-14 in room 2538. The room was very clean. There were not, however, enough bath linens left in the room. We had enough towels, but only 2 washcloths and 1 hand towel. We called for more and they were in the room when we returned. I thought a complete set for a room would be 4 towels, 4 washcloths, and 2 hand towels.
There were also popsicles left in the freezer from the previous guest. We just threw them away when we left since we did not have maid service during our stay.
