Please tell me about Hotwire. I am trying to book airfare for another family who is joinging us this next trip, and they need a deal! They are flying out of Nashville. It seems Ding isn't going to get them there, so I wondered about Hotwire. I've never used it, so don't know what to beware of! Any suggestions, tips, things to look out for? Thanks!

HotWire or Priceline is great for Hotesl and car rentals

but NOT airfare!!!
You don't see the times until you've bought.
so you can be on an evening flight going out, and the return could be first flight of the morning.
or connecting flights with long layovers.

just my two cents worth

I agree with Atigeg. I don't use Hotwire and/or Priceline for airfares.
I did just do a Hotwire serach for a few random days in Sept and all they gave me were the regular $221 airfares on Delta. They weren't even giving deals saying thier "discounted fares" were sold out.

CarolA, that's exactly what I got. My friends want to fly out of Nashville on Monday, Columbus Day. There is the Delta flight at 7:24 flight, or SWA at 7:30pm. Which would you take?

They get off work at 4:30, I am pretty sure they can make those flights. How's traffic in Nashville on a Monday/holiday? They live in Franklin--can they make it to the airport in time?

That would not be a problem. I used to live in Franklin and I would leave my home about 90 minutes before the plane. Rush hour from there to the airport isn't horrid. (They might want a little more time due to the construction on I-40)

On Columbus Day traffic would be light. Both the state and the banks are closed!

Delta would be the Comair regional jets. They are not full size planes, but are jets and I really liked them. Boarding was quick and easy.

Delta is probably a little easier in Nashville. We had a TON of SW flights so the lines there are always a little longer, but overall SW gives better service.

I have used Hotwire but only when it didn't matter what time I left or came back. Every once in a while a great deal comes up there. A WDW vacation is probably not the wisest time for Hotwire.

We used hotwire a few years ago, for our Orlando vacation. If you use them you need to be flexible, and be willing to add a day, to cover the bad flight times.

For instance, we went a day earlier, and glad we did. We had a late flight out, and did not get to the resort till after 8pm. If we had that on our original day, we would have lost an entire day. Same thing when we came home. Our flight left at 9 am. UGG

I always check hotwire, and if there is a great deal, I might consider using them again, but lately their prices, are not all that good, IMO
