Has anyone ever got out of a reservation?

Unless you have some really good reason & can prove it, I doubt that you will get out of it.. like a death in the family or an act of nature has destroyed your home.. and like I said, you can prove it.. good luck.... It never hurts to call them and try.... You will never know unless you try

The Hotwire Rules and Restrictions document (http://www.hotwire.com/about-hotwire/other-resources/hotwireAgreement.jsp) says that hotel bookings are made on a final basis and that they cannot be changed, cancelled, etc. It goes on further to say that your credit card will be charged even if you do not use the booking.

While you may choose to contact Hotwire (probably via email) and plead your case, I wouldn't expect that you'll be successful in getting a reservation cancelled.

I once was able to cancel a priceline reservation, although, it was after showing up at the hotel which was absolutely horrid and in a questionable area. I called priceline right from the hotel, explained my situation (I was travelling with 3 young children) and they refunded me the money. Of course, I then had to find another hotel, which I paid full rate for but at least felt safe.

I've used both Priceline and Hotwire many times with great success, this was a very isolated incident. They don't typically give refunds.
