Hotwire, not such a good deal for me! Savings questionable this time.

I just clicked on a hotel...$105 and paid..... and without hotwire it would have cost $110 on 8 sites shown me by Traveladvisor. I saved a whole $5 but not seeing. I feel a little cheated. However this is within their policy.

"Prices this low require us to hide the name until right after you book" Buyer beware....

Yea I think it's rare to really get a good discount anymore. I've never used Hotwire or Priceline because I would be freaking out about not knowing the place until after. I use Hotels.com and I would always check the rates with the hotel's website and it would be the same price. The good thing with hotels.com is after 10 nights, you get 1 free night. lol That's a little bit of a nice perk.

:thumbsup2 (and about half the time at checkin they take DH's frequent stay info for that hotel chain, so he gets extra rewards...sometimes it's just the reception or a cookie, but sometimes he gets points, too)

When using hotwire or priceline you really have to use those sites that help you hone in on what EXACTLY you are being offered. One of them is betterbidding.com. You need to study it so you can get as close as possible to knowing the hotel before you click.

I did it for Disneyland once, and knew it would either be the Hilton or Hyatt. I was able to go to their sites and check the prices, and also see the parking fees etc, well before I booked it (Hilton, it turned out) through priceline. It's really essential so you don't feel the way you feel right now. Now you know.

In the meantime, you're getting $5 a night less, and that's not horrible.

I use Hotwire a lot and usually save a ton. I spend time figuring out what the hotels are and what extras I may have to pay ( parking, resort fee , etc )

I normally will get a $200.00 plus room for about $57.00 or so.

I did get a bad hotel once even after my homework. It was the one I thought it was but it was just, well, nasty. Hotwire rated it 2 1/2 stars..I would say it was more like 1 1/2. Hotwire made it right though. They talked to the hotel manager, and then booked me into 3 1/2 star.
