I booked through Hotwire for a rental car as a suggestion from these boards. NOT GOOD!!! We were told we would have a Monte Carlo or comp. and when we arrived all Hertz had left was a Mustang. A family of 4 on vacation for 14 days with luggage in a Mustang, lol. So, I was forced to upgrade at 15.00 a day more. I could have booked an Explorer for this length of time for 399.00 instead, we ended up over 600.00. I have emailed them and have basically been told I agreed to the upgrade!!! Don't use Hotwire!!!:mad:
 
if your car class is gone then you should be upgraded to the next class for nothing. its irregardless if you got your rental from hotwire or priceline or expedia etc. this was due to Hetz not hotwire. you need to write to hertz.....
 
Bev. Lynn is right. If they are out of what your requested, that's their (Hertz's) problem. You should have gotten the free upgrade.

The hotwire site does not list a Monte Carlo as a type of car offered. If you selected a "standard" or smaller car, Hertz was in the right as to what they offered you. The standard size car on Hotwire is listed as a Ford Mustang Coupe. If you selected a smaller sized car such as an intermediate, compact or economy, Hertz was still in the right as you got an upgrade. Only if you selected FULL SIZE or larger do you have a case.

From the Hotwire site:
Availability at the pick-up locations varies; if the category of car you booked is not available when you arrive to pick it up, you'll receive an upgrade at no additional charge.
If you booked the larger size, since Hertz has your extra money and not hotwire, contact Hertz customer service:

But if the Mustang is the same category as purchased, then no upgrade is possible without an additional fee. Nowhere in this thread is the class of car mentioned.
 
The mustang is a 2 door standard car at Hertz and Hotwire clearly says that standard cars have 4 doors. I think maybe Hotwire screwed up in accepting Hertz's 2 door mustang in the "standard" car category.
 
A "standard" car is described by Hotwire as:

2-door or 4-door
Examples: Mercury Cougar, Ford Mustang Coupe

For Hertz, it is:

Standard - Group D (SCAR) Ford Mustang Coupe or similar
2-Door, AM/FM, Cassette, Power Brakes, Power Steering, Power Windows, Central Locking, Tilt Steering, Dual Mirrors, V6 Engine, Bucket Seats, Power Mirrors, Power Driver's Seat

The Mustang and Monte Carlo both fall into that group, both being two door cars. Hertz is predominantly Ford vehicles, so I would expect you'd be more likely to get a Mustang than anything else.

I know for sure Avis and Hertz typically consider the "standard" car class to be made up of exclusively 2-door cars. Some companies offer both 2 and 4 door cars in this class (such as Budget), which is probably why Hotwire says 2 or 4 door car.
 
Just for fun I checked Hertz and National's web pages. National considers a standard car a 2 door Monte Carlo or similar. Hertz considers a standard car a Sporty Class and lists a Mustang. I would like to hear back from the original poster as to what class they actually reserved. Typically when you reserve full size you are given a 4 door and standard a 2 door. It really depends on what the original poster checked off when they made the ressie with Hotwire. If they checked off the Standard Class they got what they reserved.

Hmmm. I just looked at the Hotwire site last night and I could swear that it said that a standard was a 4 DR car and not a 2 DR car. Either I missed something or Hotwire changed things.
