I posted this on the budget board and thought some of you might want to know also
I stayed at the Doubletree Club last week for $44 each night plus taxes and fees. It was an ok stay, some problems, but I only used the room to sleep so nothing I couldn't live with for the time I was there. But I did write to Hotwire and Doubletree and Hilton who owns the Doubletree Clubs just to let them know of my experience. I think next time I will just pay the extra and get the AP rates at AS or Pop Century.
Here is a copy of the letter I wrote.

Dear Sirs,
I recently stayed at the Doubletree Hotels Club on Apopka Vineland Road in Orlando, Florida using a reservation that was made through Hotwire.
My reservations were from May 25th, 2004 through June 2, 2004 for a cost of $44.00 per night plus taxes and fees.
I would like to give a few thoughts on my stay.
I checked into the hotel at approximately 3 pm on May 25th. The room was ready so we went immediately up to the room with our luggage.
The room was clean on check in and the bed covers were turned down. The bathroom was clean but the supplies were not replaced from the last guest. The shampoo bottle was in the tub but ½ empty. The last guests soap was in the soap holder and there was a new bar in a box on the counter. I always use my own supplies so I did not call down to the front desk, but did mention this the next day when I left the hotel.
I had a problem on my first night and had to go to the Emergency room at Celebration Hospital. I was discharged the next morning at 9 am and wanted to sleep later. I saw the maid outside the room next to mine and told her that I would not need the room cleaned because I would be in it. Her reply to me was I dont speak English. I put the Do Not Disturb sign on my door and put both locks on, only to have her attempt to open the door 4 times. I kept getting up out of bed to tell her I didnt need her but she kept coming back the next hour. I help up the Do Not Disturb sign to her and she said sorry but kept coming back.
The next day I was better able to go out and we left the room at 9 am. I was feeling poorly at 3 pm and returned to the room at approximately 3:30. The room had not been cleaned yet so I put the Do Not Disturb sign out. No one came to the door that day and I napped until 5.
On our third day, May 28th, we went to the parks again and returned to the room at approximately 11 pm. Our room again had not been cleaned. I went down to the front desk and told the person who was working what had happened the first day and she just laughed. No reply was given, but when I told her the maid didnt speak English she just laughed. I asked for clean towels since we had used the same ones twice and they were promptly brought up to the room.
On May 31st, again, the room was not cleaned and the towels were not changed. I spoke to the front desk but did not request clean towels at that time because we were tired and had extra from the day before.
Out of the 8 nights we stayed the room was only cleaned on May 29th, May 30th, June 1. We checked out on June 2, so I am hoping the next guests arrived to find a clean room. New bars of soap were supplied when the rooms were cleaned, but since we did not use the shampoo or lotion these were not replaced.
During our entire stay we had problems with the bathroom. The shower worked fine, but the drain was very slow. After taking a shower we were standing in a full tub of water each time. With the water, soap and shampoo combined it was very slippery. I feel that you should know and fix this problem before someone falls.
The toilet was also very slow and most of the time had to be flushed twice for liquid waste and 4-5 times for solid waste.
The fan in the bathroom also did not work properly and the bathroom became full of steam which did not clear until the door was opened and the cooler air was allowed into the bathroom from the bedroom. It was uncomfortable to dress in the hot steamy bathroom.
I brought this to the front desk attention on our third day but nothing was done to repair the problems while we were there. I mentioned these problems again on checkout.
The closet door was off its slider when we checked in but we fixed that problem ourselves without calling down to the front desk.
The reason I am sending this letter is to inform you of the problems I had during my stay and to let Hotwire know that I do not feel this room was comparable to a 3.5 star hotel as it is listed. Its close proximity to Walt Disney World is a plus, but I would put it in the classification of a 2 star hotel, nothing more from my experience.
Thank you for your time in reading this letter.

I included my address and phone number but took them off here.
