I've only stayed at the Tropicana, and that was in '07 & '08, so not since their remodel. This is what I can say about that:
The hotel was overall pretty nice. It's a "motel" so outside corridors. Basic breakfast, pastries and coffee and muffins...you can buy milk and cereal for $1. The room was small compared to the Hojo (where we have been staying) but it was nice and dark at night and way quieter than I was expecting. OVERALL, the rooms were cleaned, though on our second trip, I found one of those Dole peach cups under the bed (and the beds don't really have an "under"---they have a stack surface so there is only about 6 inches TOPS to go under) and we didn't HAVE any peach cups...

which made me wonder how long that had been there. My dad drove up to see us and they let him park in the lot while we went to Dland together, no problem. All the people were nice. The hot tub was nice, the pool got so super crowded in '08 (we were there during spring break) that we basically couldn't use it with our small children. But we did not have that problem in '07. So overall, I liked the Tropicana and the location was amazing...many a time since when I've been walking to the Hojo I've thought....hmmmm....maybe I'll give the Tropicana another try...

And the LAST thing that I did not like though it could have changed and also other people might not care about is that the doors had no chain locks, just the bolt...I really worried about that when it was just me and my daughters---that they would open the door for someone or wander out while I took a shower because the lock was at their level instead of up high. I hope that helps.
