Hi Everyone! I'm new to the boards but would love some help. I'm planning on driving from Saskatchewan, Canada with my two children (4) & (2) and I'm looking for a nice property to stay at that is close enough for us to walk from to get to the park. It is a 30 hour drive by car so the less time we spend in the car once we are there would be great. I'm looking for something around the $100.00 a night or less but not a dump, want to enjoy our trip. We have been to WDW twice but this is the first time a DL. Thanks

:welcome:

There are lots of hotels that you can stay at that are right across the street from the gates. Howard Johnson is really popular becuase they have an awsome Entertainment rate. If you are going when they have their entertainment rates you can pay $56 $74 a night!!:cheer2: There is also Faifield Inn, Carousel Inn, Best Western Park Place Inn, Park Vue Inn, Tropicana Inn and Suites, Ramada Inn Maingate and I think that there are 1 or 2 more, but my brain has shut down.

You can check out the websites or even Expedia.ca to get good rates. For the Howard Johnson, you need to call the hotel directly and ask for INHOUSE RESERVATIONS. No other # will be able to help you get the entertainment rate. Or you can email lorealle.bishop@hojoanaheim.com, she will be able to help you. I have heard that she is awsome.

You will find that DL is different from WDW so please look at this thread:

and this thread:

Hope that you have fun! There will be other posts to help you in your journey. Have fun on the drive down!:scared: :lmao:

deasert inn is across the street at the cross walk we are staying there on our next two visits

This DISboards link has a map that points out some of the hotels/motels that are in walking distance to the parks. There's also this link http://www.geocities.com/ashpsyche/DisneylandLinkMap.html, and this link http://www.accommodationsneardisney.com/.

To give you a general idea of walking times:

Howard Johnson: 10 minutes -- 1380 South Harbor Blvd (ETA: the "shortcut" might be 8 minutes :earsboy:)
Best Western Park Place Inn (BWPPI): 5 minutes -- 1544 South Harbor Blvd
Candy Cane Inn (CCI): 10 minutes -- 1747 South Harbor Blvd

On the map the "Park Inn & Suites" is now called the Anaheim Camelot Inn & Suites. We stayed at the Anaheim Camelot Inn, and I would recommend it; but it usually costs between $120 and $140.

We stayed at the HoJo, and I would recommend it. Their Entertainment Rate is very good, although it's usually not available during busier times, like the summer (between mid-June to mid-August) and some holidays.

The BWPPI might also have an Entertainment Rate.

TripAdvisor.com has some good hotel/motel reviews.

HoJo Anaheim, or Howard Johnson Hotel, is "a 7 minute walk to the Disneyland Resort" according to the hotel website.

The DIS girls will be there this weekend (starting Thursday) I'll be back Friday night so I'll let you know my experience!

We are staying at the Best Western Park Place Inn (BWPPI) when we go in October. Rate was under $100 even on the weekend. Its right across the street from the main entrance and we will be traveling with a 21 month old and so we want to have the shortest walk possible when it is time to go back to the hotel for nap time!

We also looked at the Park Vue Inn and Desert Inn and Suites. I believe these are 3 of the closest.

The closest within walking distance are:

Economy - Ramada Inn Maingate
Moderate - Best Western Park Place Inn, Carousel Inn, Tropicana, Anaheim Inn, Anaheim Fairfield, Anaheim Camelot Inn, Park Vue, Desert Inn

Then you also have Candy Cane - walking distance, plus its own shuttle

And you have Howard Johnson - walking distance, if you're a walker. You might want to take the ART (Anaheim Resort Transportation) shuttle after a long day in the parks. In my opinion, they have the best pools, which might be a deciding factor if you have children.

Other decent pools: Tropicana, Ramada Inn Maingate.

Does anyone know if the Residence Inn Anaheim Maingate location is walking distance friendly? I just booked there for the Disneyland half marathon. It looks really close to the park on Google Earth.

:surfweb: On Google Maps I entered the two addresses, 1313 S. Harbor Blvd. and 1700 S. Clementine St., and it displayed the distance as 0.5 mile.

On TripAdvisor.com two different reviews mentioned that the walk to DL was 10 minutes. (And one of those reviews was from a mom and dad who pushed a double baby stroller. :wizard:)

Based solely on that :goodvibes I would say the walk is 10 minutes. :earsboy:

When my mom and I go in May, we'll be staying at the La Quinta which is on Clementine...anybody know how far that is to walk? I've looked it up on a map and it doesn't look terribly far. I'm fine with walking, but my will definitely be taking the car since she's going to be seven months pregnant when we go, so it doesn't matter if I can't walk, lol. I was just wondering!

ETA: Just looked it up on Google Maps and it says it's a mile...I can definitely do that, but I may not if it's not important...like I said, we'll have a car and we'll be going early anyway, so I think we're good.

Gymfan15, you might want to find the drop-off for your mom, which I think is near the main entrance with the big signs. That might easily be LESS walking for her than if you park, have to get to the escalators (or maybe elevators depending on how she's feeling about the LONG escalator ride), walk to the tram, then walk to bag check from whatever part of the tram you get on. Might definitely be closer to just drop her so she can walk that sidewalk and meet you inside the esplanade, once you park and do all of the above.

I haven't been there pg, but parking and tramming it have led to some of the LONGEST walks I've had getting to and leaving DLR, and I've stayed at HoJo and Anabella, which aren't far, but aren't necessarily hops, skips, and jumps, either. :goodvibes

That would be amazing, except that I can't drive yet. Well, I CAN, but I'm not licensed yet, and it'd be a rental car to boot, so...yeah.

I think we're good with walking from the parking structure (we've done it many, many times)...the only reason I was asking about walking distance was if some mornings, if my mom didn't want to get up so early, my friend and I could walk down to Disneyland ourselves. We probably won't need to, but it's nice to know it's an option.

Gymfan15, La Quinta is in easy walking distance. It's not as near as the one's on Harbor, but it's still only 15 minutes to the park on foot. In February my family and I stayed at the Motel 6 just past Clementine on West Disney Way. We walked to the park everyday and would beat or match friends who drove from there. None of us were pregnant, but we were pushing two kids in strollers. =)

Another nice thing about your location is your proximity to restaurants in the Garden Walk. These are located at Clementine and Katella, just south of your hotel.

Thank you for the information. That sounds like a close walk. I can totally manage walking a 1/2 mile if I'm going to run 13 miles in the half marathon. :rotfl:

Has anyone stayed at the Fairfield Inn?? I'm thinking about booking there, it said it was within walking distance. I'm wondering though, do they have a mini-fridge and/or microwave in the room??

I haven't stayed there, but according to their front desk...

the Fairfield Inn has (very small) mini-fridges ("micro-fridge"?), but they do not have microwaves.

We walked it no problem last time we stayed there it took us about 10 - 15 minutes to walk there.

How about the Jolly Roger? If it's horrible, please let me know :thumbsup2
