I was just checking out dates etc. on Virgin Holiday's website. We usually stay in the Courtyard by Marriott in DTD. However, a note came up saying that it had changed its name to the Holiday Inn. Now my only experience of a Holiday Inn was the Holiday Inn Nikki Bird in 1999 which was absolute horrendous. I'm really nervous about staying in a Holiday Inn hotel again.

My problem is I need a hotel with a private balcony. Me, DH and DS (10) are asthmatic. Sometimes, DS has problems with the air conditioning and we end up sitting on the balcony in the early hours waiting for the attack to subside. Anyone know of another hotel in the DTD/Lake Buena Vista area with private balconies? For the last 6-7 years we have booked through Virgin and would like to continue to do so if possible.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're not going to rent a car you should stay in a DTD hotel. Most (all?) of the rooms in Hotal Royal have balconies http://www.royalplaza.com/accommodations.html

The Wyndham in DTD also have balconies http://www.wyndham.com/hotels/MCOPV/guestrooms/main.wnt?aff=meandaur

as does the Best Western

The rumor is Mariott dropped the hotel because it didn't meet standards. I suspect the hotel will be the same (or a little better) than it was last year. If you were happy last year I wouldn't worry about it. $20 rates are great BUT probably doesn't give the hotel enough money to keep the place up.

We stayed the the Rsdisson LBV in October. Every room has a balcony.

We just came back from the Marriott Orlando World Resort, and I believe every room has a balcony - we Pricelined this. We stayed in the North Tower, which was incredibly nice and VERY convenient to parking, the pools, the food court - I would request this tower again, in a second. We overlooked Disney (we could see Epcot and MGM and Downtown Disney and Pleasure Island) and from our 18th floor room by the elevators could also see the wonderful pools. We were also VERY close to WDW - in the morning, we got to the parking lots in about 5 or 10 minutes, tops.

A wonderful hotel, in all respects.

for your really helpful replies. I'll set about looking at all of the options in more detail. I'm really grateful for your help.

I see OP is from England. Will you have a rental car? The DTD hotels have good bus transportation (every 20 minutes or so).

The offsite hotels have VERY LIMITED scheduled shuttle service. If you're not going to rent a car I'd stay in one of the DTD hotels.

Lewisc : yes, we will rent a car. We've never relied on the transportation available via the hotels since we like to run to our own timetable, not theirs! :D

I'm going to have a look at the links you posted - I forgot about the Hotel Royal Plaza next door to the Courtyard. Although memories of that hotel are a little clouded since we were staying in the Courtyard last June when the little girl drowned in the Hotel Royal Plaza. I remember driving past and saying to my husband that something was going on since a police car was in the forecourt of the hotel. We learned that night on the TV that a child had died. It was heartbreaking and played on my mind for the rest of our holiday. So sad.
