hotels near Universal

Can anyone suggest a decent place to stay that is very close to Universal and inexpensive?? We are only staying for 2 nights and I can't justify paying the rates for the universal resorts for just 2 nights.

In 2001, we stayed at the Holiday Inn on Kirkman Road.. About 20 minute walk to the entrance of Universal. We thought the hotel was fine for 3 nights. Our room was clean, nothing fancy, but clean. The staff were accomodating, and we liked having the TGIF restaurant next door for breakfast each morning..

When I checked the rates for Holiday Inn at their website, if you have the entertainment card, the rate was $79.00 per night..Without the card, I think it was going for $99.00...Check with Hotelkingdom website for rates too.

This year we are staying at the Amerisuites (next door to the Holiday Inn).... We choose this hotel with a vacation package purchased with Universal vacations.

we just stayed at the comfort inn on sand lake road. It was only about $50 and they gave you a free breakfast. The only complaint was it was very loud by the pool so if you do stay there ask for a room away from the pool facing the parking lot. It is also a 3 star AAA rating. Also had a frig and microwave in room. Universal was less than 5 minutes away.
