Hotels near a beach

We will be travelling from San Francisco to Anaheim in July with a one night stop in San Luis Obispo. I would like to stay a couple of nights at a hotel either on or very close to a beach in the LA area before we check in to our DL hotel. My DS wants to do "beach" stuff and my DD wants to visit Hollywood so I'm not sure what area to stay that would accomodate both of them. Ideally, if possible, I would like to be walking distance to a beach since this part of our trip will be the only beach time.

We enjoyed the Sea View inn at the beach, Manhattan Beach. Rates were reasonable, rooms funky (some with views), they had bikes and beach chairs etc. that you could borrow.

Manhattan Beach is just south of LAX. We found it had a relaxed small beach town feel to it. Sea View Inn is a short walk to the beach.

It is not for everyone but we enjoyed it. Check it out on tripadvisor.com
