We are leaving on Thursday morning and driving for the first time from Toronto. As its our first time, we do plan on taking it easy and stopping after about 8 hours of driving each day. We are aiming to be in Orlando by mid-day on Saturday.

We are crossing at the Peace Bridge and then taking the I90-79-77-95-4 route .

Can anyone recommend where we are best to stop along the way? Also, is it recommeded to book in advance or take our chances on a walk-in reservation?

We took that route in August 2012, and made due with finding somewhere along the way. We aimed for 15 hours driving our first day, and ended up just inside South Carolina. We didn't prebook anything because we had no idea where we might end up along the way when we decided to stop for the night.

I can't remember where we stayed though. I want to say it was Comfort Inn? But can't say for sure!

Looks like you take the same laid back approach to the drive as we do. Since we always use our loyalty points for free hotel stays on our drives to WDW, we always reserve in advance.

Unfortunately, I can't recommend a place for your first night, since we go the I 81 route through Syracuse. But your second night (Friday) should put you somewhere around Columbia SC or Orangeburg. We've stayed in both places on different trips at one of the Marriott or Fairfield Inns. They're located very close to the interstate exits and are comfortable. Either of these stops would get you to WDW by supper time on Sat. (Unless you stop at the outlet mall in St. Augustine, like we do. Then all bets are off).

This is the way we used to do the drive before we started flying out of Buffalo. We stopped the first night in Beckley, WV, any of the chains will do, just pick one that serves free breakfast. The second night, we always stop at the Best Western Bradbury Inn and Suites at exit 102 on I95 at Pooler, GA, right near Savannah. Big rooms, good service and breakfast is free there too. You are only about 4 1/2 hours from WDW from there so you will arrive fresh and ready to go!

I drive this way I made it to Savannah Georgia and stay with my uncle over night so I don't have first hand. My sister who has 3 little kids and takes longer ended up at the Georgia/South Carolina boarder and ended up staying at this place called peach tree hotel. She said it was ok average run of the mill none chain hotel.
