I did see there was no DVC availability. Understandable that they don't want more people at risk, but locals need a place to go. Good to see people have a place to go at a reasonable price.
FEMA and Govt Shelters have to make arrangements for family pets, so say if they booked an entire hotel for FEMA use then yes. But private hotels are under no obligation to accept pets. Only government emergency management must include pets in their planning and services.
What a great thing to do! I hope other hotel chains follow suit, although I expect perhaps the opposite (rising rates). The amount of goodwill generated by such an action is immeasurable, imagine putting people (customers), and pets, first above profit! What an incredible concept!

It is confusing. My guess was government agencies were not helping these people so the law was put in place that it was part of their job to help pet families. I imagine many of the families who need these shelters, especially the elderly, have pets who are family. Better to provide for them than have them stay in their homes.

Prior to Katrina, most if not all shelters refused to take pets - I think it was actually prohibited, not sure. Many people stayed home rather than evacuate because they didn't want to leave their pets behind, and some of them died because of that. FEMA changed the rules and now requires shelters to make accommodations for pets.
