Hotels and QS breakfast

Hi all

We usually stay at POFQ during our visits. We are looking to book a trip in 2017 to get married and have our honeymoon at the world. We will have a 10, 8 and 18 month old. The kids love POFQ and the breakfast options suit us well (pancakes, waffles, french toast) for a QS credit.

With it being our wedding trip we were going to upgrade to somewhere like the Beach Club however having researched their breakfast offerings they really don't seem as appealing.

Would you stick with POFQ (smaller room) for the easy to please food options or go for the nicer hotel but be stuck for choice for each morning. We really don't want to use a TS credit for every breakfast.

Thanks!

Well, I would choose POFQ - for a lot of reasons. But you need to think about what is going to be a better fit for your family. Try not to get hung up on which one is "nicer" and really think about what is important to your family and which one will make for a better overall experience.

I was just conscious we may need more space to get ready for the wedding, store outfits plus we will have an 18 month old this time so need space for the travel cot.

BC/YC is my go to resort, if available that is where I stay. I wouldn't worry too much about the whole lack of QS that you hear about. No they, don't have a whole food court thing going, there is an area where you can get a hot meal and there are pastries and yogurts, cereal, that kind of stuff. It is also a hop skip and jump to Epcot where the sky is the limit. I would stay wherever you are comfortable and you want to, if costs are an issue you might look into Swan/Dolphin sort of deluxe resort at a moderate level with real restaurants.

Compromise -- do the WL, where the Roaring Fork has the Bounty Platter for breakfast -- a CS credit.

Isn't the WL so large you need a bus to get around the resort? This puts us off a lot if so.
I guess the ease of grabbing food before heading to the parks is a big win for us since we mostly visit MK and AK with kids the ages we have. Epcot food choices are great but we won't visit every day plus you then lose valuable early time at the park.
We can afford a deluxe - it's our wedding :duck:. But also need to bear in mind after we get married we will have a 2 week holiday (visiting from the UK so tend to stay longer) which we want to enjoy also.

Do any deluxe resorts that are more compact (i.e. most things walking distance within the resort) have good QS food choices?

True, lots of food options at Swan/Dolphin, with a great location. You also get most of the on-site perks.

The one thing to watch out for is the hidden "a la carte" fees. The Resort fee, nightly parking fee, airport transportation cost (not built into the room rate).

You can still save money there if you get a great base rate.

Since AK is a favorite, why not stay at AKL? Mara has all the breakfast options you want.

I don't think WL is so big you need a bus. Are you perhaps thinking of the campground?

Wilderness Lodge (resort hotel) -- no. Fort Wilderness (campgrounds) -- yes.
WL gives you the benefits of a Deluxe at near-moderate prices.

And many congrats on your wedding! WDW is a great place to celebrate!

You are confusing the moderate Fort Wilderness, the campground with an extensive internal bus system, with the deluxe Wilderness Lodge Resort hotel.
This question should be posted on the resort forum not here on the theme park attractions and strategy forum

Have you considered renting DVC points and getting a villa at Beach Club? You could have extra space for all your "wedding stuff" plus a gorgeous place for some pics. Then you could have some breakfasts in your room and have the boardwalk, plus Swan and Dolphin, in walking distance for meals too, not to mention just strolling around. Whatever you choose, congrats! And post pics!!

If space is a concern have you thought about going the other way? Staying in a value suite, either at Art of Animation or the All Star Music? I have always found the value food courts have a nicer selection of food than the moderate or the deluxe resorts.

I want to add that I too am not impressed with the food offerings at the Beach Club.

With wanting more space and having an 18 month kiddo, I would really look into staying at one of the Art of Animation suites. Sure it's not a Deluxe resort but you get so much with the suites. The ratings for resorts at Disney are more a classification of amenities then resort service anyway. The suites have a separate bedroom with a bathroom that has a shower. The bathroom in the living area has a tub (Yes, 2 bathrooms!) There's a dining area that you could use to store things and even a kitchenette with a sink and microwave for lazy mornings. Landscapes of Flavor uses real plates and silverware, even the deluxe QS still uses disposables. The pool area has a Nemo themed splash pad for the little one.

We love AoA too, but it definitely doesn't scream "honeymoon" like a deluxe, IMO.

Well, having 3 kids doesn't really scream honeymoon either.;) Having more space and 2 bathrooms may be appreciated. Along with a bedroom that has a door on it.

Don't the villas have doors in the bedrooms? We've only ever stayed in a studio, but I assumed they did. I finally decided I'm booking WL for Thanksgiving next year even though the kids want AoA again! I truly love it too (stayed there our last two stays) but always wanted to do WL for the holidays.

The OP never mentioned wanting to stay in a villa. Going from one room at POR to a 1 or 2 bedroom villa is a huge price jump.

I know she didn't; I did. And if you rent points, it can be quite comparable.
