Hotel thoughts

What are you dates? There may be some good deals on Hotwire or LMTClub.com.

Not sure about your dates but our go to place for the last few trips has been Super 8 on Katella. Typically on orbitz we can get a room under $75 a night. They have recently remodeled and the rooms have always been clean and housekeeping has been great. They do offer a small free breakfast - pastries , frozen waffles , cold cereals , yogurt ,apple/orange juice , coffee and free parking and wifi too. We have been in every area of the motel and it has been quiet even in connecting rooms.

Just wanted to toss that out there and their 2 queen rooms are spacious.

I checked Super 8, but it is more than my La Quinta reservation, so no benefit in switching. But thank you, I may try it next trip.

I understand your problem. I often travel with people who want to stay at the same hotel as me and they either 1. Don't like my selection because it costs too much or 2. Don't like it because it isn't as nice as they want...

My solution would be - Figure out what she is willing to pay. Find the room YOU want. She pays what she is willing and you absorb the rest. I have actually done this. She has what she wants as far as cheapness, you have he room you want.

As for parking, that is yours to pick up, breakfast she can buy her own. McDonald's is close by and she can grab a sausage McMuffin.

If you two are sharing a room, and splitting the cost, then what's the problem? I mean after all, the expense would be about $50 a person. Sounds most reasonable to me, especially for a nice hotel.

Gisele, the problem is--she's cheap! I am all about value. A cheap room that is unpleasant is not a bargain. My typical preference is a Fairfield, Embassy Suites, Hilton. I have stayed at cheap motels when I had no choice. I am not extravagant, but I don't feel a $125 room, divided, is luxury.

My concern would be if she is this concerned about the hotel..what about in the parks ? Granted you can bring your own items in which is nice..but even when we do we still buy things in the parks to snack on or tear ourselves too.

I do agree with previous posters stating about setting expectations..because this could be a miserable trip which would be unfortunate for both of you.

I hope things work out.

I would travel separately from that individual. They should penny pinching to the point of sucking the enjoyment out of it all

First of all, I would never stay in a hotel under $65 with free breakfast in walking distance to DLR.

Second, your friend is being unreasonable, but possibly because she is out of touch with the current hotel/motel rates. Try to explain that you are not comfortable in an accommodation at her rates due to security & sanitation hazards (or whatever).

Third, if this was going to be a great trip with my friend other than her ideas on accommodation costs, I'd book what I wanted, have her pay a share, and cover the rest myself. No, it's not really fair, but at least you both get what you want.

Finally, for me, the hotel is ABSOLUTELY more than a place to sleep. It's very important to me to choose a place I can relax in and enjoy. I'm most likely to stay on site but I will use other hotels/motels if my budget isn't up to DLR hotel costs. However, it has to be more than a room with a bed.

^^^ Wish I had a like button.

I don't know your exact dates but I checked some random dates around Easter using the IHG Friends and Family rate and found the Candlewood Suites Garden Grove for $68/night and Holiday Inn Express Garden Grove for $77/night. To book the Friends and Family rate visit this discussion where several IHG Employees have kindly provided their personalized links.
