Hotel / Shuttle to port

First time cruiser here ... I'm sure the info I need is hidden amongst the thousands of threads posted but I've gone through a few pages with no luck so far.

Here is what I am trying to figure out:

We are flying down a couple of days before our cruise and I'd like to know how other folks have arranged for transportation to their hotels and the cruise ship?

Are there hotels that offer a shuttle to / from Orlando to Port Canaveral?

Are we better off renting a car at the airport and driving to Port Canaveral? Then what? (Dropping the car off before the cruise / getting another car after?)

Any suggestions from veteran DIS'ers would be VERY much appreciated!!!

Hi there!

We have always rented a car at the airport (we ply in the day before) and driven to port (this year we paying $53.44 for that one through budget) we keep the car until the next morning and then take it to the budget office at Port Canaveral. They have a shuttle service that will take you right to the port.

When the cruise is over We just take the budget shuttle back to the office at the port, pick up our rental and drive back to the airport (we paid $43.78 for this "leg").

This turns out to be MUCH cheaper for my family of four than using Disney transportation, plus we have the freedom to make stops as needed or explore (last year we went to Kennedy Space Center).

We also flew down, two days before and this is what we did..not necessarily what I would do again. We rented from the airport and stayed in hampton inn airport area. We returned the car in the airport and took the disney shuttle to the port.

Now that I know better, I will rent a car from the airport and return it in the port.

I too have a question. My TA booked our transfer from POP to the Port. What time does the DCL bus pick us up from Pop? I cannot find this information anywhere.

I have contacted my TA for this information as well but I am curious if anyone else already has this info.
