We are booked to go here in may. I have just read the reviews, the majority are very poor

What are your experiences please?

We went 1st in March 2010 before refurbs and loved it. Yes the rooms are small enough but the beds were comfy, the rooms spotless and the shower was good and powerful. I love the pics of how it looks now that its been freshened up with a Cars refurb and cannot wait to see it 1st hand in January. I rather its rooms to the Cheyennes although the Cheyennes outdoor theme is the best onsite imho.
Hope this helps

Just stayed there last week, they have almost finished the refurb, the rooms are great and fresh looking. I hate what Disney are doing to the beds they are very firm which I don't like. I also don't like the bar as there is no atmosphere and you have to go to the bar to order, which we haven't had to do in other bars.

It's cheap and I have no problem with the rooms except the beds but I have this problem in SL and DLH as they are using the same mattresses

I think there's two big reasons it gets bad reviews:

  • A lot of people pay full rate and at those prices it's not worth it. That's true of all the Disney hotels though.
  • You can get the Cheyenne for a similar price and the theme of the Cheyenne is (IMO) much better.

The Santa Fe is a bit drab from the outside (especially when compared to the Cheyenne) but it's a good base for a trip, especially with nice refurbished rooms.

There's also a petrol station just over the road from it which sells cheap drinks and snacks. It's really useful for late night munchies!

The Cheyenne suits me better (theme + bunk beds) but I'd happily stay in the Santa Fe, there's nothing wrong with it.

where are you reading the poor reviews, and are the majority of the recent reivews (ie in the last couple of months) poor? If its tripadvisor etc, you really need to read between the lines with resort hotels (not just DLP ones) because folk who went to the resort and didn't enjoy it, for whatever reason, will have an axe to grind about the hotel too generally.

Personally, I've stayed at the Santa Fe around half a dozen times in the last 5 years, we're back there again next February, and I've yet to have a poor experience there. We love the hotel, and in fact, out of the 3 onsite hotels at DLP we've stayed in so far, the Santa Fe is our preference :).

I stayed in the Santa Fe two years ago, so it was pre-refurbishment. I found the hotel to be really good. Although the theming isn't as strong as the Cheyenne, the rooms are of a similar size and are also a similar distance to the parks.

I'd be interested to know what the bad reviews were saying... Sometimes I think people forget it's a budget hotel and therefore doesn't have all the mod-cons you'll get from say HNY or DLH.

Stayed there in January and it was fine, hotel rooms are recently refurbed, walk to and from the park was easy, when we wanted to avoid the shuttle buses, nephew loved the Cars theme, CM's really friendly and helpful. My only gripe were the ridiculous queues outside the building for breakfast, and that probably wouldn't have been so bad, if the temperature hadn't been well down in the minuses.
