Hi, I am thinking of booking for two weeks in June 09 at the Royal Plaza, what is this hotel like?

What is the transportation like to the parks- how often do the shuttles come, are there specific shuttles for each park, are they crowded, are they on time usually?

How far is the hotel from the Downtown Disney/pleasure island?

Any comments/answers to the above are much appreciated, thanks!

the hotel is okay.

the shuttles are every 30 minutes

one bus to MK and AK.

another one to Epcot and studios.

the hotels are by divided by the side - so - it would be Hilton, Holiday inn, Royal Plaza and doubletree

on the other side - Buenva Vista Palace, Regal sun and BWLBV

I have only stayed once and that was enough. It was last July. We stayed for a couple days before we went to the Poly. It almost ruined our trip. I realize that we may have been the exception more than the rule, but I feel people need to know the bad as well as the good. We had a connecting room and the people next door (not part of our group) decided to smoke and it came over into our room. Management did nothing to help this issue. Buses were horrible. We went to the park early and on the way there, the driver said they would run until about 11am and then resume at 3pm, again maybe the exception, but it put a damper on things for us as we like to return midday for the kids to nap and then head back to the parks later in the evening. So we had to keep the kids at the park until 3pm and skipped going back that evening.

Again, this may not be the norm for this hotel, but two nights there was miserable and we will not return. No way would I attempt 2 weeks there.

I stayed there last fall and loved it. I didnt go to the parks while I was there, but I'll tell you about my experience there...

I was supposed to stay at the Grovsever (i cant remember the exact name, something like that... it has since been renamed though) and when I checked in, it was AWFUL... the pool was closed, you had to go to the hotel nextdoor to sit by a pool (and it was crowded since it was 2 huge hotels sharing one small pool.) So i immediately looked elsewhere for a hotel for the 2 nights I needed, and the people at Royal Plaza were wonderful. Clean room, available immediately, really nice staff... pool was AMAZING. I loved it. :)

sorry, forgot to say in my first post, it's a stone's throw away from DTD... we walked every night!

We have never stayed at the Hotel Royal Plaza, but were thinking about it last year. We went on-line and looked at photos, etc., and it looked really nice, inside and out (at least in the on-line photos). We ended up booking at another hotel, but while we were at WDW, we did drive by it and the outside looked nothing like the photos that we had seen on-line. It looked dark and dreary. It did not look appealing to us. I was glad that we had decided to stay somewhere else. We didn't go inside the hotel (just drove by it)....so for all I know it may have been beautiful inside, but somehow I doubt it. It's only my opinion. I will say that it was close to DTD, and you could walk from the hotel to DTD, which would be a positive point.

I agree with the above post. The only thing I didn't like about the Royal Plaza was the bathroom WE had. The lighting was very poor and the shower could have been cleaned a little better. Other than that, I enjoyed our 8 day stay. I would try it

We stayed about 18 months ago right after the remodel was complete.
The rooms are great, very nice. Close to downtown disney.
