Hotel rooms for guests

Hello, it's me again... I"m just chock full of questions lately... I think it' s because my engagement party is in 5 days and we are going to let everyone know the wedding will be at Disney...

I've read that some of you are taking care of your guests reservations... what exactly are you doing regarding that? We are not planning on paying for our guests rooms... but my father-in-law is a cast member and from what I've read on this board he can get 50% off hotel rooms, which would be GREAT!!! and give several guests the incentive to come down. Even with his discount, that still counts towards the room night min, right?

How are you guys setting up the rooms for your guests? Do you set up the res with your CC and then when they go they just charge it? How does it work with a cast member getting the discount? Does he have to be there for everyone to check in? If that's the case, it might be a bit much for lots of people to take advantage of?

Sorry this is so long, I just know people will be asking me these types of questions this weekend... Thanks for all your help so far! I am soooooooooo appreciative of it!!!

Are you having a custom wedding or an intimate? Custom weddings have room blocks set up with a discounted rate already applied to the room (granted, not anything near 50%). Your guests call the group reservation number, and make the reservation. If they find a better rate, they can make reservations outside of your roomblock, and just give you the reservation number so that it will apply towards your room night guarantee. If you are having an intimate, you don't have to worry about guaranteeing a certain number of room nights.

As far as your FIL's cast member discount, there may be restrictions on how many rooms he can reserve at any one time, and he also may have to be present at check in. You may want to research those restrictions before offering up that discount to all your guests. Depending on how many guests you have, and if he needs to be present at their check in, it may become quite the burdon on him in the days before your wedding. Just something to think about.

Sorry, I should have mentioned it's a custom wedding... we are planning on having between 60 - 75 people. If he could get the bridal parties rooms, that would be most ideal... especially ours since we want to stay at the Boardwalk villas or GF suites... anytime we go down we stay with them - they only live 1 1/2 miles outside the main gate. My parents will be staying at the resort as well as my entire bridal party... I won't have any problems reaching the min room night. Thank you... I know it's all going to go by quickly, especially when we actually reserve our date with DFTW. I am not a patient woman so waiting until Sept. 23 of this year to reserve our date and start the planning sessions is driving me nuts!! But I'll survive... at least I get to see my fiance this week... he's coming home for the party... He's the director of the Batman show at the Six Flags here in NJ.
It's tough being away from him... even tougher for our 9 year old... can't wait till she's out of school and we can go visit him more often.

Anybody know how much (on average) the discounted rates are for the custom weddings? I plan on having one value resort (Pop Century) and 2 mid-scale - probably Port Orleans Riverside and Coronado Springs...

I totally agree with hmgolden about checking to see the restrictions on cast member discounted rooms before offering them to anyone. The last thing anybody needs is more stress when it comes time for the wedding! As far as discounts on the resorts go, it varies from resort to resort as well as by resort season. Since each resort determines what group rate they will offer, there is no flat percentage off. My wedding was in value season in 2003 (so my prices are out of date), but I believe we had rates of $59 per night at All Star Movies, $99 per night at Caribbean Beach, and $299 per night at the Grand Floridian. I can’t swear to that though.

we are paying for & making our guests room reservations at allstar movies (guests) for 3 nights/4 days & the wilderness lodge (parents & bridal party) 4 nights/5days for our custom ftw this at the yc this march through the wedding reservation line as we receive rsvps.

as for the cast member discounts i know there are restrictions so i agree with the others in checking this out first with ftw & your em. as for mentioning room discounts to your guests i would stick with the info on your room block until you know more about the cm discount. as for the room block rates they vary by season & room nights guaranteed.
