Hi all.
After reading many of the posts here Dh and I decided to take a "rest" every day from DL from abot 11:30 - 2:00. We were thinking it might be easier to have some quick-easy lunchs in the hotel so then the kids (and us) would be able to nap right after.
Our room does have a microwave and we have our van so getting to a grocery store will be no problem. I was wondering if anyone has any ideas on what we can eat? I have thought about sandwiches but I'm sure we will get sick of them rather quickly. I also think we will do hot dogs and veggies one of the days. If a grocery store sells the "ready cooked" chicken we may do that another. Any ideas would be really welcomed.

TIA

soups maybe? those hand ones if kids like em, i dont but they may be easy
popcorn for snack
water dont forget waters there a bunch in the park.
um hot dogs an chilly an chesse?
hum tortias an beans chess? (or ham chesse)
thers alot not sure how much will work but ill keep thinking lol

I might also do chicken wraps if I can find one of those pre cooked chickens.
Ham and cheese would be good!
Thanks for some ideas...anymore ideas would be REALLY appreciated as we will be in Anaheim for 12 days!

How about lean pockets (or hot pockets)? Depending on your hotel, a box might fit into that little freezer inside the fridge. We've also brought baby carrots, 100 calorie snack packs, string cheese, and other portable items.

We take chicken nuggets and corn dogs along with canned fruit and fresh fruit. Last trip where we planned out a whole menu for lunch and dinner we took a Foreman Grill and did chicken tenders and steak. My brother even cooked shrimp in one of those pasta cooker tubes where you just add hot water. You can cook potatoes in the microwave and do stuffed potatoes, heat veggies in the microwave ect. We took a bunch of Hot Pockets too but no one really wanted them so we will skip those next time. I think my favorite was the chicken tenders. They were hot, tender and moist. So yummy after a day in the park and they didn't cost a fortune.

I was thinking about the chicken nuggets because they are my sons favorite....can I cook those in the microwave?

We were going to take a George Foreman grill but hubby can't seem to find it in our camping stuff!

Keep the ideas coming these are great!

Go the the thrift store and get another George Foreman. I love that thing, and being able to cook burgers for the family or making grilled cheese and soup for lunch will save so much $$. I take a package of Beefy Onion Lipton soup mix and mix about 1/2 the package into a 1# of meat. Add cheese and heat the buns in the bun warmer on the GF is awsome. Microwave some corn and you have dinner and sooo much savings.

I like to take the uncrustables....I keep them in the freezer and take a few out before we leave and either set them on the counter or stick them in my bag, by the time the kids are hungry I give them one fo those and its enough to hold them over....just a thought...

bagel w/creem cheese and ham
bagel open face w/melted cheese
Bobboli pizza (made in microwave, not as good as in the oven, but it would do)
bean and cheese buritto (or chicken/beef if you are driving and plan ahead to make it at home)
Lloyds (or store/local brand) pulled pork/chicken sandwiches-- it is a tub of precooked and bbq sauced meat that can be microwaved and put on hamburger buns. I find it in the meat department of my local stores---oh, they also have a tub of chicken meat that you could use to make burritos

Awesome ideas! I ran out today and picked up another grill. It isn't George Forman but it is similar. That way we can cook chicken/grill cheese/ ham and cheese ect.

What is an uncrustable? I have never heard of it :confused3

Kraft Easy Mac....made in the microwave...goes good with the hot dogs, chicken nuggests or even sliced ham...

Overpriced frozen Peanut butter and Jelly sandwiches. When I get them for trips, I try to go get a case of them at Costco. About $10 and the costco ones are larger. What I do at home is make my own. I got a "cut and seal" from pampered chef. It makes perfect round sealed sandwiches. I make up a tray of 24 (12 grape 12 strawberry) I freeze and there ya go.

You'd be surprised at the number of frozen items that can be microwaved. There's also a lot of new-ish microwaveable "sides" (mashed potatoes, mac n' cheese, etc.) that companies like Country Crock have put out which serve a family. Cup-o-noodle soups are great if your kids like Top Ramen. Betty Crocker's Warm Delights are great for dessert (just add water and microwave).

I use zipper type plastic bags at home. I nuke hot dogs, beans, veggies, chili, soups, and lots of stuff from cans that way. I have even made mashed taters in a bowl in the microwave.

Hit the ethnic aisle for some cool microwave dinners.

Taco Bell in a box

Try to find a store with lots of full service counters so you can get baked potatos, cooked meat, cooked veggies. I go to Whole Foods store and get a lot of premade foods there and even the local grocers have premade foods.

Check online for microwave recipes.

Some things our daughter enjoys for quick and easy lunch:

-- baby-cut carrots (put them in a baggie with olives and shake them up!)
-- celery (with peanut butter for an extra treat)
-- cold edamame (unshelled is more fun)
-- baby spinach dipped in ranch dressing
-- cherry tomatoes
-- snack-sized bell peppers (red, yellow, and orange)
-- apple wedges
-- strawberries
-- avocado slices (this can get messy)

All of these things are easily carried in a cooler and won't spoil for several days.

Some fast and easy meals/snacks:
1. Home made nachos can easily be made with prepackaged shredded cheese on top of Corn Tortillas Chips. Nuke it a couple of seconds in the microwave. You can also buy a small single serving can of sliced jalapenos for the top.
2. A can of chili (buy those convenient pop top cans that don't require can openers) and a bag of corn chips with the shredded cheese on top gives you any easy Chili Frito Pie.
3. You can use your Foreman grill to heat tortillas and heat a can of refried beans and use your cheese to make fast Bean and Cheese Tacos.

You could get Cook's ham slices and add some sauce, canned veggies and stuff for a Thanksgiving type meal, lol.
