We lived in California in the early 90s and visited Disneyland a couple of times. Stayed at a Marriot or Fairfield Inn near the front gate (can't remember which) and thought it was fine. Since then we've been to Disney World several times and wouldn't consider staying offsite there. We might be able to go back to Disney Land for a couple of days next year and wanted to see what folks thought about staying offsite vs. onsite there. Since we've been before we are more concerned about staying somewhere that will give us quickest access to the park instead of providing the Disney experience.

Thanks in advance.

There are several motels located right across the street from the entrance. We recently stayed at the Castle Inn, which is a little further down Harbor, but not very far. We thought it was great! The management was wonderful, the room was large (executive suite), and very clean. The ac was a bit loud, but I was so tired at the end of the night it didn't really bother me. It did bother my mother though. We would stay there again, but I need a scooter, so want to be as close as possible due to battery charge issues.

If you're not concerned with being on the "Disney bubble", you should be fine at many of the Good Neighbor Hotels.

If being close is your top priority, I would stay at Best Western Park Place Inn. It's the closest to the front gates (even taking into account the DLR hotels.)
