How far in advance do you usually make your reservations? We are planning to go to WDW late March -early April 2010. I went to discuss this with a travel agent and she said she couldn't do anything for me until at least Sept. How do people go about this then? Is it true that she can't do anything until then or was it because I went in late afternoon on a friday and she just didn't want to get into it with me.

She just didn't want to get into it late on a friday afternoon, but I will gladly pick up the sale that she didn't want!

You can book a room only reservation, and then when the rates for the packages come out in September-ish, you can cancel the room only & swap it to a package, where you have the park tickets & dining. If you wanted to do the swap to the package, you would have to put down a second deposit (typically $200 for a package) and then have Disney refund you the deposit from the room only ressie (one night's stay, at the highest rack rate price for that room for the 2009 season).

My TA told me that the package prices should be out by mid-August, so we are going to wait and book our Dec 2010 trip then. That way we won't have to do the room only thing and then swap.
