I am trying to book hotel reservations online and have encountered a problem and I wondered if this is standard. At two different websites it has asked me how many is in my party (2 adults and 1 child), but when I go to make the reservation it say this rate is based on double occupancy and an additional charge may be assessed by the hotel for extra people. Is this standard? How do I find out what the correct rate is for my stay?

Thanks!

Are you trying to book with a major hotel chain or an independent?

Some hotels will charge a certain amount for a third person in a room. Some will only charge if the third person is 18 or over. Others will charge for an adolescent (12) and older.

Could I ask which hotel you're looking at? You could PM the info, and maybe I can do some research.

HTH!!

We are trying to book at the Radisson in Alexandria, VA. They ask the child's age so that is why I am confused about the disclaimer. (DS will be 9 when we check in and 10 when we check out. :))

I book all the time online for our family trips (2 adult, 2 kids). As long as you specify in the reservation the correct number and choose the 2 bed option, you will have no problem. I think the disclaimer is added if you have more adults in your room.

I have probably booked 20 or more rooms on Expedia, Travelocity, Priceline, Hotwire, hotel websites directly, etc. and never had a problem!

Go ahead! Have a good time!

Hey tiggerlover-

I just called the Radisson CRO, and was told that they do not charge for a third person until they're considered to be an adult.

I asked for clarification and he said 18 or older.

Good Luck!

Well thanks, that was nice of you. Do you have that CRO number, I am interested in seeing what their rates are compared to Travelocity and Priceline.

Their toll free phone number is (888) 201-1718.

Good luck!

It's a standard thing to pop up. Most hotels in their right mind wouldn't charge extra for a child. I think I had this pop up on AAA and I was not charged extra even though the comment was there.

Standard is 3rd adult and higher are extra.

Unless you pull off from a long trip and stop at the hotel advertised for $19.99--they count all the bodies.
