Looking for some recommendation on good, clean hotels at a fair price located near the Kennedy Space Centre. How far is Cocoa Beach ?

Do we stay in Cocoa Beach or better to stay even closer to the Space Centre ?

I've been looking into the same thing. We would like to attempt seeing the next shuttle launch on June 13th. It's scheduled for 7:17 that morning. Trying to figure out the best place for viewing and for staying the night before.

We stayed at a Hampton Inn and Suites Cocoa beach after our KSC visit...It was about a 30 min drive south of the Space Center, not right on the beach, about a block walk. Not sure about where to view the Space shuttle, but about 15 years ago, my husband and I watched a launch from the north end of Cocoa beach and enjoyed that view.

We have reservations booked at the Best Western in cocoa beach and are also hoping to see the shuttle take off on the 13th. I was going to try and buy tickets for the launch at KSC but b/c the launch is so early you have to be in the gates at least two hours before launch which for us is not happening...so I was also wondering if and how much we will be able to see right from cocoa beach?

BTW, if you are looking to make reservations from what I can tell hotels are booking fast for that weekend due to the launch I'm sure.

We also have reservations at the Best Western--it is about the closest we could get! We are hoping to make our way up to Jetty Park to see it. Best views are on A1A but no availability anywhere. Also, we'll get to enjoy the beach for a day at Cocoa! The Best Western is right by the Pier and the location is great. Reviews are mixed...but not a lot of other choices. We were able to get ocean front with a balcony but paid more than it probably is worth!

How was the Best Western? We have a reservation there for December.

Thanks!

Hi,

We just stayed at the Doubletree Hotel Cocoa Beach last April. Here is a link:
http://www.cocoabeachdoubletree.com/

It was about 15 minutes to Kennedy Space Center- ask someone local how to get there b/c if we had used our GPS it would've been a longer drive. The front desk clerk told us shortcut that was MUCH better.

The hotel was great-small pool and no hot tub BUT the beach was right there and it was just perfect.

Thanks Julie. I'll give them a call. (I don't see that they have a room that will fit 5 on their website.)

I recommend the Radisson at the Port. It's about a 10 minute drive to KSC. The rooms are a nice size, the pool is very large with a small waterfall and the pool bar is even better.:rotfl:

Rooms were clean and there are a few resturuants within walking distance.

The Best Western was a lot better than we expected for a 2 star Hotel. We were in the Towers Building as recommended to request on Trip Advisor. We asked for highest floor up we could get and we paid for Ocean Front. We had a corner unit, ocean front, with a fabulous view. The room was clean and the location great, next to the Pier. There is a Publix two blocks away within walking distance. We ate at the Atlantic Grill on the pier. We called ahead and got a window table. The food is great there and they have specials. Thursday is Lobster special, Friday their shrimp specials. We have had both, one on a previous occasion when we stayed in a private condo.

The breakfast at the Best Western was not very good, but at least you can get your coffee, juice, muffin, toast, cereal, etc., included in your cost.

Of course, we didn't get to see the shuttle off, as it was cancelled, but we had a lovely dinner and enjoyed the beach! We then headed over to the Gulf Coast and stayed for a few days in Indian Shores in a private condo there. That was beautiful, too! We liked both Cocoa Beach and the Gulf Coast--they both had their own charm, that's for sure!

So, our recommendation, ask for the Towers and pay more for the ocean front accommodations if you can--definitely worth it!
