I want to start planning a vacation for next year. I think we want to go to Myrtle Beach. I want to see hotel rates, but every site I find I have to put in dates. I don't want to set dates, I just want to get an idea. Would probably go in June and I can't put June in any site because it's too far away for next year and already happened this year.

Is there a site to look up hotels that you can just see rates listed by general date or on a calendar or something? I would need to pick a hotel, based on rate first, then on what it is to keep within budget.

Anyone have a recommendation for searching stuff for vacations? I am a complete vacation newbie other than planning our first ever vacation which was Disneyworld 2 weeks ago.

Hotel rates vary by season. I'd put in a dummy date for sometime this summer to get an idea of the rates. There is, of course no guarantee that the rates will be the same next summer, but it will give you an idea. You should be able to book for next June sometime in August so you'll be able to get a better idea then.

Hotel rates vary by date and one weekend can be much higher than the next depending on what is going on in the area.

So play around with several possible dates to see if the rate is different.

Yes, you can put dates into the site. That's the problem. First off, I do want to see June dates. I am not set on June, but that is likely when we would go on vacation again. Can't currently see June and you can't go by other months. Just from current, which would be 4th of July week through August the rates can differ by a little less than $100/night.

The 2nd problem is, punching in the stupid date for every single place you want to look at before being able to determine if it's in budget or not. Very few sites seem to be like it is with looking up Disney rates where you pull up a chart that lists date ranges with the "season" it is and the rate listed (obviously that doesn't guarantee the rate won't go up, but gives you an idea judging from hotel to hotel or season to season.)

I want to pull up a hotel, click on "rates" and see a list of rates. I don't want to pull up a hotel, click on the calendar, scroll to the month, click the day, click the check out calendar, scroll to the month, click the day, then see, Oh, it's $240 a night, that's way too expensive, on to the next hotel....

The majority you can't even put fake dates in because it is also looking at availability also. I'm hoping that there is so many people on this board that someone could recommend a good vacation website that may list hotel rates rather than make you start a booking process to find out the rates.

We were looking at going there, but went to Mackinaw instead. If I remember correctly room rates were around $150 a night and up.

I usually use Expedia, Orbitz, and Travelocity to check. Then if I find a hotel I like that is part of a chain (Best Western or Hilton, for example) I go to their own web site and look further. Usually the same room will be a bit cheaper on its own brand's web site.

Start at tripadvisor.com. You can put in the area and then select a price range to get a ballpark figure for each hotel available in said area. You should be able to narrow down your choices.
Then by August you should be able to get actual quotes at each hotel's site.

Not sure if it will help with what you're looking for or not. I know you were looking for hotels but this site might give you a general idea.

Try http://www.condolux.net. It is a condo rental site that lists a ton of resorts in the North Myrtle Beach area. It lists the rates for each resort by season as well as specific dates to check for availability. Most of the resorts have 1, 2, or 3 bedroom condos. We have used them for a few years now and have been very pleased.

Are you a member of AAA? If so, you can go into the office and ask for the guidebook for that state (South Carolina) then you can look at the listing of hotels in the area/town you want to visit. Each listing shows the 'seasons' for each hotel. It might say something like Jan2-April 30 $69.99, May1-Sept30 $99.99, Oct 1-Jan 1 $79.99 and that way you can get an idea of the seasons, some dates might vary a bit, but that would give you ballpark idea.

Won't work that way. As a hotel GM for 20+ years, you have to understand that our rates are VERY fluid. It is called yield management and we will post rates all over the board.

It will change on season, what GDS (global distribution system) the room is out there one, rates, weather, local action (ie graduation weekend).

Our goal is to get as much revenue per room. And a good majority of the time, we don't know our rates for that far out that you want to see. Sure we have rack rates, all hotels do. And if we can get you to book around the rack, I got one happy revenue manager working for me.
