Hotel Questions

Bonjour!

I'm completely new to this board and after flipping through a few pages, the rules, and the stickies, I still have a question or a million.

We are considering a trip to Europe this summer. We plan on going to Germany for several days and staying with friends, then taking a whirlwind tour through Paris for a day or two (We've been there before; I'm a French teacher) an ending wth DLP. We are, as most people are, trying to save some on hotels and such.

I have never been to DLP before so this would be my first trip!

What sort of hotel accomodations are there? I know about the actual resort hotels and their costs. Would you say DLP is closer to DLR's setup or WDW's with regard to "off property" hotels? Are the hotels close and within walking distance of the parks, or would you have to rent a car/take public transport to get to them?

Piggybacking on that question, are there any CLOSE hotels that are relatively less expensive than the resort hotels you would suggest? We are trying to avoid renting a car if we don't have to, but I don't know what the setup is like.

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if I missed this information somewhere!!

well, not sure about the other resorts as only been to dlrp lol

hotels - the closer to the park, the more expensive - the closest being dlh. all the disney hotels arte within walking distance - the cheapest being santa fe & cheyenne - both takin about 15mins walking (or less depending how quick u walk/children).
u can get the shuttle bus which takes 1 min (or so lol) so they are close.
the offsite hotels can end up costing a lil more, so it depends if u want to be onsite or off really - prices seem to be slightly more than santa fe (well, they do when i checked them).

am sure sum1 else can give more help - but hope thats a start??

I'm assuming that you don't have annual passes, in which case, something worth remembering is that if you stay onsite, the price quoted incudes your tickets into the park and there are no additional travelling costs as even if you choose to take the shuttle bus as opposed to walking, it is free.

When we've looked for a budget trip, we have always come back to staying onsite as the prices end up so much cheaper for us when you consider all these things. HTH

we stay at the santa fe and i think it is reasonably enough priced. if you stay offsite you have to add on the cost of tickets. even the associated hotels are more expensive than the sant fe if booked through the disney site. there is a free shuttle from the santa fe and it takes less than two minutes to get to the park. on a nice day the walk along the river which takes around a 15 minutes stroll can be quite enjoyable.

Thank you so much for the input! I had a feeling it was "cheaper" to stay at an on-site hotel, but like I said, I wasn't sure if it was more a WDW or a DLR feel. At DLR in California you can go there and stay for a lot less money at a good neighbor hotel, but at WDW it's less expensive to stay on site (in my opinion).

If you stay at one of the four Val de France hotels ie. the Explorers, Kyriad, Dream Castle or Magic Circus (formerly Holiday Inn) there are free shuttle buses to the parks or else it is possible to walk, it takes about 25 minutes. If you're looking at one of these hotels it is better not to book these through Disney as it will be more expensive, even though they will include tickets. If you choose to stay at one of these it works out much cheaper to book independently (there are links to booking sites in the Hotel FAQ) and buy tickets than a package through Disney. There are even more reasonably priced accommodations a bit further afield, again there are details of many in the FAQ.

The layout of the parks is much more like Disneyland, there is only 5 minutes walk between the main park and the Studios and Disney Village.

One good thing I've noticed this year is the number of North American DISers coming over here to the DLRP to say hello and ask some questions about our Disney resort!
Its very nice to welcome people and be able to return the favour of sharing some local knowledge.
I stayed offsite at the Adagio Aparthotel at Val D'europe for a week last August and it was fine. Not the same experience as staying onsite but less expensive and good for splitting a visit between the parks and Paris.
I love staying onsite though and I would also recommend the Cheyenne as it is wonderfully themed and less expensive than most of the other onsite Hotels.

Thank you everybody for all the input. This is really helpful as the Disney site itself doesn't seem to be helping me much. I don't like how they don't show you exactly what you're paying for! They show it's 88 pounds per night for the hotels and that a 3 day hopper pass is 84 (?) or so, but when you add that all together it doesn't equal the package they give you. It totalled something like 476 pounds I believe. I think that the 88 pounds per night is per person or something, I don't know.

Either way, we're trying to decide if we're going to be able to make the trip or not. :/
