We are taking a quick weekend getaway to Ocean City, MD before school starts. I can't believe how much hotels in that area cost. Even the non-ocean front ones are around $200. We stayed ocean front on Waikiki beach for $169. Something just seems wrong with that picture.

Yup. We looked into going there some years ago and was just shocked at the prices. At the time I think the best rate I found was at the Holiday Inn
Express a couple of blocks away from the beach for like $155 a night.

Agreed!

2 Years ago we went there for 3 nights, stayed at the Flamingo Hotel. It was clean but was your basic no-frills older style "motel" room and I think we paid about $200 a night.

My brother was just there for a week and paid almost 2k$ .. insane!

We were there Saturday night for the boardwalk. Every hotel on the main road, large and small said no vacancy. It's amazing!!!

Funny this subject came up. We just got back from a great week in Branson Missouri and the hotel we stayed at was just under $60 a night. Very reasonable IMO. Very clean, comfortable beds so on. Then we left for one night in Moore OKlahoma to see our DD then on to home. The Super 8 there charged us $102.00 for the night and it was horrible. The toilet was constantly running, and the room wasn't ready when it was suppose to be. The breakfast was a complete joke for the money we spent. Seven Gables Inn in Branson was half the price and a much better breakfast.

Never again will we stay at a Super 8.

I agree the prices are outrageous! When we go to OC, we usually rent a condo for about half the cost. I suggest vbro.com!!

:)

Totally agree. We we there a couple weeks ago stayed for only 4 nights and it was 249.00 a night!!!! Its cheaper to go to Disney!!!!

Have you tried hotwire.com? We have always had excellent luck with them. Last month we got the Radisson Orlando/Celebration for $51 a night, and the Hilton Atlanta Conference center for $53 a night. Both hotels were listed on their websites for well over $150 a night.

As long as you book the correct area you want, and stay at 3 stars or more, you can end up with a great hotel for an even greater price. I would at least check it out, it can't hurt and it doesn't cost you anything.

The only caveats are, you don't find out the exact hotel until right after you pay, and it has to be paid in full right away. It is usually pretty easy to figure out the hotel first though if you look at the amenities and the area on other websites such as tripadvisor.com.

I love VRBO..... never been disappointed yet, and have used them 5 - 6x, I guess.

Never pay retail price for a hotel if you can help it. Book in advance using hotwire.com or priceline.com (bid your own price) or use expedia, hotels.com, etc... Use AAA for a discount, sign up for the free frequent user hotel cards -- you'll get deals emailed to you all the time. The summer I signed up for the Holiday Inn rewards card and earned a free night after only a 2 night stay!
