Looking for input...say we get a free dining offer for our trip in September. What would be the cheapest place to stay for 6 nights with 5 day non hopper passes. Mind you there are 4 adults plus 1 child, age 5.

Port Orleans Riverside has rooms that sleep five, and free dining at POR is usually the regular DDP (and appears it will be for September based on the thread on the Codes Board). It would be cheaper than two value rooms or any of the deluxes as long as you are okay all being in one room.

As far as I know, count the values out, unless you get a family suite at ASMu or AoA. Their standard rooms accomidate 4 people. I think a mod, would be best, you could stay in one room, but would probably be pretty cramped. Unless you want to do 2 rooms at a value, but then with the value you would only get QS dining and have to upgrade to DDP.

I've priced it out and our best bet is a room at Piet Orleans Riverside...2 queen beds and a Murphy bed. I just have to convince my mom that we can sacrifice space and an extra bathroom for price savings. Getting 2 rooms or a value suite would cost more than Port Orleans. I'm just not sure if there's any place I was missing.

This.

POR is the only mod to sleep 5, though many deluxes do also. But that is a price issue. CSR has some business suites that sleep more than 4 but thats even more expensive than deluxe. And as you saw, value suites are more expensive also. So based on what you are looking for, you are probably right to go with POR. We chose it for the same reason :)

You could try a DVC rental and see if you could get a deal. I think it is david's dvc or something like that, that is a DIS sponsor. I see the ad every once in awhile on here. Maybe try the dvc boards.

My understanding is that free dining is not available with DVC Rental. However; DVC Rental may be a better deal even without the free dining if your dates are set and you can pay 100% upfront.

Correct - not able to combine free dining with dvc rental.

And just to add to the discussion, and to ensure you are comparing apples to apples, the general rule of thumb is that a basic dvc studio is about the same rental price as a standard disney reservation for a moderate room. The dvc studio is probably a bit bigger than a mod, but not by a bunch. The one bedroom dvc suites are typically another 30-40 percent more than the basic dvc studio room. So for a stay of at least 5 days, the savings from dvc would likely overcome the free dining savings, as compared to a deluxe reservation, but the mod with free dining would be cheaper because the room for mod and the dvc rental room would be about same, and there is no free dining if renting dvc.

I agree that POR would be the cheapest option. Any of the deluxes (except WL and AKL) will accommodate 5 in a standard room, but they would be quite a bit more expensive than POR.

No, you are right, POR is the cheapest for 5 people. Just pack very carefully, and make sure you only have things you need, not extra stuff you may need. Also, ask to be near a pool, that way you can use their restroom area as an extra one if needed.

If you have four guests aged 18 or older, you will need to pay the extra adult fee times two per night. You might want to consider two rooms.

Great point! Op make sure you are adding the extra $30 a night you will be paying for having more than 2 adults in your room at POR. Randomly picking summer dates you end up only paying $40 more a night for 2 rooms at an All Star than you would for 1 room at POR once that extra fee is accounted for.

I didn't know about the extra fee. Is that calculated in when I check package prices on the disney site?

If you do look into renting DVC points, with 5 people you can not fit in a DVC studio - you will need a 1 or 2 bedroom.

Yes, your quote will include the extra adult fees if they are applicable.

Just wanted to add that not all 1 bedroom villas accommodate 5. Some only accommodate 4 + 1 under the age of 3.

We brought my younger sister on our recent trip, and sharing a bathroom with three adults is rough, especially when you consider how little time will actually be spent in your room at Disney.
We take breaks every day, and hardly ever stayed through the fireworks, and still struggled with the shower schedule.

With 4...I'd get 2 rooms, even if they were at a value resort (you could even get an air mattress for the 5 year old to sleep on, so all the adults could have their own bed). I know that's not the best deal with free dining, but I don't think I'd be willing to sacrifice convenience and comfort for a few extra meals.
