Hotel opinions please - BW Park Place Inn

I'm considering BW PPI for a trip next spring. I admit I'm a hotel snob (give me WDW Deluxe any day!) so it is hard for me to agree to step down to a "moderate" motel, but I like the location of this one and the price is much more within my means. I know it's not the GC (or GF for that matter) but I am keeping that in mind and won't have a major meltdown because I expected it to be like a deluxe resort. (too bad these moderates are not on par with WDW moderates! - I wouldn't have any qualms about that.)

Has anyone stayed there recently?

How would you rate the cleanliness?

How are the beds (hard/soft/lumpy)?

How well does the a/c work? And is it really noisy?

How quite are the rooms?

Any other thoughts?

It's been over 3 years and we were still a couple with no kids, but thought I'd try to help you (FYI I'm also a snob on hotels) -

How would you rate the cleanliness? Clean - yes, old and dated - yes

How are the beds (hard/soft/lumpy)? Soft but not like home - you can sleep and not wake up in pain but they're not super comfy.

How well does the a/c work? And is it really noisy? Noisy - a little but it does work well. Now, I'm also RARELY hot and typically cold, so A/C in the L.A. area for me isn't usually necessary often.

How quite are the rooms? Not super quiet and the clientele is sometimes a bit different, so except some noise but not extreme.

Have you considered Howard Johnson's instead? It looks to me that it's nicer than the BW now and considering age...

We are going over Thanksgiving, I’ll let you know how things are when I return.

We like this place a lot. It is really close, it is clean and we have never had any problems with the A/C, too much noise, etc. If you are mostly looking for a place to sleep and keep your stuff safe, I recommend it highly. Each room does have a small refrigerator and a microwave which is nice. My kids are old enough that we are at the park all day, with only a short break in the middle of the day for lunch in our room. It is definitely convenient for taking a break in the middle of the day if that is the way you want to do things.

Now if you are the type of hotel snob (and I mean this in a nice way!) that likes to stay in your hotel room, sit by the pool and order room service, this is not the place for you. It just depends what you are looking for I guess.

I stayed at the BWPPI last month, and I was pleasantly surprised by how nice it was! My room looked like it had been re-done fairly recently and everything was VERY clean and nicely decorated and appointed. The room was also larger than I expected - in addition to the 2 (comfortable!) queen-size beds, there was a small seating area just inside the door with a sofa, coffee table and chair.

Each room has its own A/C unit - the one I had was not overly noisy - white noise, really. And it seemed to work fine. I also am typically more cold than warm, but I had to turn my A/C down when I got back to my room around 10:00 at night because it was waaay too warm in there, even for me!

The room seemed to be fairly quiet - but I was on the third floor, so I didn't have anyone above me. I was only there one night, but I didn't experience any noise problems.

It's not an especially pretty place, since there's really no landscaping at all - it's either parking lot or building. The pool area is not too large, but it looked like it was nicely kept up.

They do offer a free continental breakfast at Captain Kidd's (the restaurant next door) but I didn't try it.

I'd certainly stay there again - you definitely can't beat it for proximity to DL, since the hotel entrance is right at the crosswalk!

Have you considered the Candy Cane Inn? It is rated #1 hotel in Anaheim on tripadvisor and has many, many fans here at the Disboards. It is still within walking distance, has its own dedicated shuttle, a nicer than most continental breakfast, super comfy beds, very clean rooms and gorgeous landscaping. For the true hotel snob, I would definitely suggest this hotel. I believe the rate would be comparable to BWPPI.

I was going to suggest the Candy Cane also. I'd compare the rooms to those at POR or POFQ as far as size/decor/comfort, etc.

I've never stayed at BWPPI, but it does get good reviews. I'm a hotel snob, myself and whenever I've looked at their website, I'm just not impressed.

You might also look into the Sheraton Park. It's another couple of blocks away from the parks, so a bit of a hike, but it's nice and would be more of a deluxe experience.

We have stayed at the BWPPI three times. The most recent was in June for four nights. I do not claim to be a hotel snob, but I do want clean and quiet. BWPPI works for us because they have "mini-suites" with two queens and a roll-out queen. With four kids, we have a hard time finding hotels that work for us and Disney hotels, like most hotels, are usually setup for families of 4-5, not 6.

In any case, with like having the fridge and the microwave in the mini-suites, and the proximity to DLR can't be beat.

The beds were decently comfortable and in good condition. Not too hard or too soft. The place was kept clean. We always request a room on the side opposite the Captain Kidd's restaurant and that has been quiet. Sometimes people with excited children walk by outside and it gets loud, and with the window there facing the walkway that will make it a little louder. The noise that does occasionally occur is temporary.

As we have been in June and August, the A/C was critical and worked fine for us. As another poster said, each unit has its own A/C. It was a little noisy but I agree it does fade into white noise. We usually slept with the A/C on low.

If you go when it is warm enough for swimming, be informed that the pool is outside and on the small side. We used it to cool off after hot mornings. Some other hotels on Harbor have inside pools that work better in the colder months, but when it is warm out we prefer an outside pool.

In summary, I do not rave about BWPPI like some people do about CCI. It has been reliable for us and met our needs and will continue to be a good option in the future.

We were there but only for 1 night so my review is not as good as others. We were there on 9-29.

How would you rate the cleanliness? room was very clean, bathroom was very clean, grounds were clean as far as we could see

How are the beds (hard/soft/lumpy)? the beds were quite comfy, not too hard or too soft, no lumps in ours at all

How well does the a/c work? And is it really noisy? we didn't use the a/c

How quite are the rooms? they were quiet enough that I could sleep. I'm picky, my room needs to be pretty quiet for me to sleep and I was out really quick

Any other thoughts? The breakfast was next door at Captain Kidds, it was really good!! Nice buffet style meal with lots of choices. The staff was really polite, the pool was closed for refurbishment but you could use the pool at BW Park Place Inn if you wanted to swim, you just had to get a pass at the front desk.

We love the promixity of this hotel to the parks, we stayed at the Tropicana in July and we are staying there again in a week, but only because the BWPPI was full.
