We fly into MCO from the UK at 7:30pm and are looking for a hotel close to the airport for a 1 night stopover before starting our holiday. The airport hotel seems very expensive so could you suggest any other hotel that is very close to the airport, and would be suitable for 2 adults and 2 young children.
thanks

Try bidding on Priceline. It takes a little work but is well worth it for the $$ savings.

There are 2 websites that help folks with bidding on Priceline -- BiddingforTravel.com & BetterBidding.com. Both are good. I've cut & pasted this from the BiddingForTravel.com Florida Priceline forum, and I think it very well explains the advantages of Priceline. And the original poster who asked for help in the thread I've quoted from below, added another thread yesterday reporting that she finally got the 3* MCO Hyatt Regency on 05/07/08 for $53!

Generally hotel occupancy/rate trends for the MCO zone are opposite those of the DWV and U/SWA zones. MCO hotels are busiest during mid-week with business clientele while the the DWV and U/SWA zones are busiest on weekends with vacationers.

You stll may ber bidding a little early since some hotels don't release room inventory to Priceline until there is less than a monthbefore check-in/check-out dates, or later.

Here are Expedia rates for Priceline-rated 3* and 2.5* MCO hotels for 5/7:

3*
$136 Crowne Plaza / $159 Florida Hotel & CC / $126 Holiday Inn Select / $249 Hyatt Regency / $179 Mariott / $194 Renaissance / $159 Sheration Suites

2.5*
$159 Amerisuites Northwest / $159 Amerisuites Northeast / $129 Courtyard / $184 Hilton Garden Inn / $ 77 Wingate Inn

Expedia rates are generally pretty close to the hotels' lowest website rates.

To put the above rates somewhat in perspective, adanna814 recently reported receiving the 3* Hyatt Regency on $60 bid when the hotel's lowesest website rate was $259.

BFT bidders in the MCO bidders have been successful in the $60 to $65 range for 3* hotels and in the $36 to $45 range for 2.5* hotels.

Generally, all of the 3* and 2.5* MCO hotels seem to have pretty good TripAdvisor customer ratings:

There are lots of options if you don't want to do Priceline.

I have stayed at the Marriott Courtyard and Fairfield Inn. The latter has a free breakfast too.

There's also a LaQuinta Suites. My brother stayed there with his wife and 2 kids and said it was fine.

On a higher note there's a Marriott and Rennisance.

All of the above have free shuttles to and from MCO.

Priceline looks like a great idea, but the site wont allow me to bid because I'm from the UK, it will only accept addresses from US & Canada.

Quick update, I've just found the UK Priceline website. Thanks so much for the information, I've just saved a fortune by bidding on our hotel at Manchester the night before our flight leaves, and I've started bidding for a hotel in Orlando, but my first offer was rejected. I can see this could get very adictive:rotfl2:

 I just can't get on the Priceline bandwagon, especially when it comes to booking in a large city, when there are so many bad places. I just can't see how blindly booking a hotel just to save some money is worth the potential aggravation.

Probably has a lot to do with the way I travel -- I like to check out hotels in a particular area and pick a place based on price & amenities. If I need to be near somewhere specific, I don't want to take any chance on not being where I need (or want) to be.

But that's just me! :)

I guess it depends on which city you are visiting like you say, in Manchester I had checked out all the 4* hotels near to the airport so I knew I'd be pretty happy with whatever one we got, they all run shuttle buses to the airport, and the more £'s I save here before we go means the more $ I have to spend on our holiday once in the US.

Fantastic! I LOVE Priceline, but as I said in my first post it takes a little work (i.e., research) and of course it's not for everybody. BY the way, I used Priceline for the first time last summer to get a hotel room in London and saved literally hundreds of pounds/dollars.

If you're just doing a one-nighter, I'd suggest a Motel 6, Days Inn or Super 8, something along those lines - why waste your Disney $$ on a NICE hotel when you'll be a one for the next few days.....
