Hotel near Doubletee Universal

My in-laws are staying at the Doubletree near Universal but the price is a too steep for us. Is there a less expensive hotel within walking distance to the Doubletree? Also can one walk to Universal from the Doubltree area?

There is a Holiday Inn, Amerisuites, Extended Stay, Sleep Inn and a few others (whose names escape me at the moment) in the general area. Holiday Inn is right across the street and Amerisutes is right behind the Holiday Inn. The Doubletree is within walking distance of Universal but it is a little bit of a hike. Have a great trip!

Just last week I booked the Doubletree (3.5 stars) from Hotwire for $58/night from 3/23 thru 3/28! Granted I didn't know it was Doubletree until I settled the transaction, but I knew it was a 3.5 star hotel in the Universal Area and that was good enough for me to take a chance and it worked out great! However, I'm only going for 4 nights, but when I did the search for 4 nights it came up at $114/night and then I did it for 5 it came up at $58 so I just booked the extra night and saved $166 overall. You need to be a bit creative with Hotwire sometimes, but it typically pays off very well. Good Luck!
