Hi. Can anyone reccomend a hotel that is within walking distance to Universal Studios? The cheaper the better.

Thanks

We just got back from Universal on Tuesday 7/1.. We stayed at the Homewood Suites on Hospitality Way, Orlando. It is 1/2 mile from Universal. They provide a free shuttle to the parks. This hotel is brand new, just opened on May 6 2003. They give you a free complete breakfast every morning, eggs, bacon, cereal, waffles, bagels juices etc... on Mondays thru Thursdays they give you a free light meal...example; salad, lasagna, bread, soda free beer and wine . Coffee all day,a free newspaper in the morning . The rooms are suites, small kitchen area , living room with tv, desk
and table and chairs. Huge Bedroom with 2 double beds armoire with tv. and nice size bathroom. We paid $89.00 a night plus tax.
It is considered a Universal area hotel. Resaurants in walking distance too! How can you beat that ?:Pinkbounc

If you make reservations online you can stay at Amerisuites for $69 a night and save big money with their great breakfasts. They have free shuttles to Universal. Also Residence Inn at $99 a night. Both hotels are considered Suites, can sleep up to 6 people if you get double beds (both come with sofa sleeper), and both have helped us save a lot of money because their breakfast are full of great foods (if you have a good breakfast before the parks for the most part you can miss lunch - maybe a cheap snack- but it took us almost though dinner time. Hope this helps.

No matter how close you stay offsite Universal, the walk to it will be a hike. The hotels that are the closest are on Major Blvd, Kirkman Rd and Vineland. The hotels that offer shuttles are a big help.

Check Priceline for 2 1/2 and 3 star hotels in the Universal area. All of the hotels they offer in that are great hotels. The Amerisuites djm mentioned is in the 2 1/2 group. You can check www.biddingfortravel.com for the available hotel lists and how to bid.

If not you can try Hotwire which will tell you if the hotel has a breakfast and whatever other amenities it has before you bid.

Also check www.hotelkingdom.com for the best deals without bidding.

Good choices,

The two aforementioned
Sleep Inns and Suites
Red Roof Inn Universal
Holiday Inn Universal
Hampton Inn Universal
Wingate
The Radisson is a bit pricy but has shown up for $30 or less on Priceline.

HTH.

Jewlz: We are staying at the Homewood Suites in two weeks. How was it? We are there for only one night, but I like CLEAN rooms. Did you enjoy your stay there? Sounds like they give you a lot of free food, but I'm not sure we will be able to take advantage of it. We might book another night there at the end of our visit to Universal, before going home. Thanks for any info.

Sherries,
If you are staying at the Homwood that is located on at 6624 Hospitality Way. It was really nice, extremely clean and brand
new. The staff were very very nice and pleasant.I would reccomend this place highly. Let me know how you make out .

I just booked The Fairfield Inn & Suites Orlando Universal Studios for $66. It's on Vineland Road, I think that's across from the parks.

Jewlz: Yes, we are scheduled at the Homewood Suites on Hospitality Way. Glad to hear that everything there is good. I think I changed my ressies from three other places, before settling on the Homewood Suites. I know it is just for one night, but . . . Thanks for the info and I'll report back after we make our trip in two weeks.:smooth:

Anyone have information or comments on Sleep Inn and Suites?

What was on the breakfast buffet? How was the shuttle service if you used it also how was the pool? TYIA

A little bit of everything. you make your own Waffles, fruits, muffins, eggs, toast- with jellies, biscuts, cereals - hot and cold, sausage, bacon, juices, milk, coffee. I can't remember everything, but I'll tell you this - When we traveled we went with another family. My husband (along the other family are Vegetarians - We ALL had plenty to eat everyday. This was a money saver for us because we ate "snacks" (we bought) at the park and only had to pay for a good dinner. Both Residence Inn and Amerisuites have "Bountiful" Breakfast so either one are worth it (although Amerisuites tend to be cheaper) . We rented a car, the shuttle service appeared to be too crowded. Also, the pools were VERY crowded so we didn't swim there. We went to Wet N Wild and Watermania. Both hotels are clean and the room set up is predictable (rooms look almost exactly the same no matter where you go). That is the only two hotels my family stays in when we travel on family vacations. Also, I heard that Homewood has almost the same set up. I think Homewood and Amerisuites are affililated.

robinrs, it sounds like you know about the hotels in the universal area. Would you happen to know anything about the HoJo plaza resort on S. Kirkman?? :) :)
