Hotel in Monterey?

......Then, I was torn between tripadvisor #1 Monterey Plaza Hotel and Spa and #8 Holiday Inn Express. I ended up getting a really great deal on the Monterey Plaza partial ocean view room. Didn't want to end up in their bldg. across Cannery Row Street so paid a little more but didn't want to pay for full ocean view. It is still costing us more per night than Morro Bay or SB but we want a really nice trip. It's a really high end resort and has won awards so this will be a splurge.....

I'm SO GLAD you booked at the Monterey Plaza Hotel & Spa! You will NOT be sorry! My Mom & I stayed there in July 2010 & I cannot say enough wonderful things about it. We had a partial ocean view. We had cute sea otters barking below our window, with the waves crashing over & over again. It was the most relaxing night of my life! The hotel is beautiful, the view is gorgeous, and they made us feel like royalty. I can't wait to hear how your trip goes. ENJOY!

I hope it works well. We asked to be in the main area, not across the street. However, the cheapest room we could afford is "one of a kind" in their resort. It is tucked behind a stairwell to the spa and if you lean the right way out the window, you get a partial view of the plaza area and water. Plus, the view across from you of other rooms. So we took what we could get. We aren't right on the water, unfortunately. We couldn't afford that much.

Did you do any spa treatments? We have been under such stress for so many years that if we can get our house sold and our move done in time and are free to travel, we really are thinking of splurging on spa massages at several locations on our trip to really relax.
