A question from a family who have been big campers...what is the typical tip amount you leave for housekeeping? And do you leave it all at the end of your stay or each morning? Who else on the hotel staff should we plan on tipping and about how much? Can you tell we don't vacation much???? I just want to make sure I set aside enough cash for these types of things! Thanks!

Hello fellow NYer....greetings from your downstate neighbor!!

I was curious about the same thing and was about to post the same question. Hope we get some great feedback. I would not want to "stiff" my mousekeeper.

We tip every morning because the same person may not clean your room every day. Usually tip $3 - $5 per day (How many people in room?, quality of service?) We tip anyone that handles our luggage about $1 to $1.50 per bag.

Hi there-

Since planning our WDW trip was a famliy affair last year - the kids and I both had fun preparing for the tips. We typically tip $1 per person per day to the "MOUSE"keeper. So we prepared in advance $4-5 in an envelope for each nights stay at our Disney resort. The kids decorated the envelopes and wrote "Thank you Mousekeeping" all over them. They each drew a picture for each envelope. I didn't want to tip only at the end because there was likely multiple mousekeepers taking care of our room during the 10 days and I didn't think it was fair for just the last mousekeeper to get the whole lump sum. Oh...and I have read lots of posts that say there is no need to tip the Disney mousekeepers because they make a regular salary (or something like that...apparently they make more then most people who clean hotel rooms for a living). We don't quite have that motto. I am kind of a neat freak so I am sure there isn't much to clean in our room but anyone who is going to come in and straighten up, clean the toilet, make my bed and possibly make my child a cool towel animal deserves something extra. If I treat them good my hope is that they will treat me good.

As for the rest...I tip people who help me. If someone is taking my bags to my room or from my room to my car I typically tip $1 a bag as well. Obviously those aren't preplanned. I just bring extra $1's with me.

:)

I generally tip Mousekeeping (and housekeeping in any hotel anywhere) $5/day. We are 3 adults. It is customary to tip the Bellman who helps with your luggage $1-$2/bag. You would tip the Valet who takes your car and the one who retrieves your car if you Valet park. You would tip for any special service you received - say a massage etc. And of course restaurant tipping. That is all I can think of.
Have a great trip.

I usually tip daily and if the service was real good I tip more. I know I will be needing extra laundry bags and soap, so who ever gives me these things will get a extra tip.I must say Disney world mousekeepers make quite a bit more pay than other hotels. I know because I had a friend who was a housekeeper at disney.

We do the same thing with our mousekeeping envelopes! Kids love to do it!
We usually tip $4-$5 a day for our family of four.

When we stayed at the POP in April we tipped $5 every day (there were 4 of us). As a thank you we received some of the most beautiful towel animals I have ever seen. Every day they were bigger and better. Of course it all depends on how many people you have in your room. Most people feel that $1/per person per day is plenty. I'm the type of person that always tips a bit more (I always do 20% or more on meals or tipping my stylist unless the service was so horrible then I go down to 15%)

It's completely up to you what you feel comfortable tipping.

We typically tip $1 per person per night for Mousekeeping, and I put the money in special daily thank you envelopes that I make before we leave. For luggage handling, we also tip $1 per bag when assisted (sometimes we handle our own depending on the circumstances).

For the airport, I usually tip $1 per bag when using skycaps.

Thank you so much for your replies! It helps a lot! We thought it was similar to tipping at a restaurant...20% of your night's stay! That would put us in the double-digits...whew!! I wonder what kind of towel animals we would have gotten had we not asked this question??

Is it any different if you stay "club" or concierge level?

Thanks so much!

many people tip and do not get any towel animals. many people do not tip and get towel animals.

We recently returned from the Polynesian and tipped housekeeping $5/day. However, we didn't get any towel animals.

I also tipped the bellman $10. :)

We also tip $5 per day each morning and $3 for turndown. We've always ended up with an abundance of toiletries (NOT why we tip :) ) and towel animals here and there.
