Hotel Help!

Hi, we're planning a short (3 night) visit in early June. Usually we stay on site, at either GCH or DLH, (and in the off season). The rates this time around though are putting us off, particularly because we will be travelling with friends, and we are sure they won"t want to pay the equivalent of $800 (in our currency) per night to stay at GCH. (Who would!)

So, am giving some thought to other hotels, in particular the Sheratons/hilton because we can probably do a reward stay. Pool, and proximity will be important factors, also standard of hotel as we do plan to spend some time there (breaks for the kids)! Any feedback on them?

Am also thinking about the Paradise Pier option - looks like similar pricing to the Sheraton - how different is it in terms of amenties from DLH?

Look forward to hearing your experiences!

Farm, you know what half of us are going to say... :rotfl: HoJo. :thumbsup2It's as close or closer than DLH and PP, half or 1/3 the price, easy walking distance, and the play area for kids can't be beat. You don't want to be taking ART or driving back for a midday break or at the end of the night.

Seriously, even without the Ent rate (the Ent rate IS currently showing for June 10th and 11th http://www.hojoanaheim.com/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=14) it's a beautiful hotel with extremely comfortable rooms and lovely grounds, great pool, great staff, very clean. Nicest on Harbor, I think. Add in the easy walk and you can see why so many of us love it.

Just my 2 cents! :)

yep it's on my list, but thought I'd try branching out!!!

Thanks or checking up on it for me though!

Not sure how the pricing compares since I have never been to DLR but since I have been doing some searching myself recently (thinking about attending D23 Expo) there is a hotel called Desert Palms Hotel that is right there almost on the property and they are currently offering a special that if you stay 3 nights you can save 20% http://www.desertpalmshotel.com/

I've never been to Desert Palms, but a friend of mine just had a bad experience there. They ended up changing hotels mid-trip. Again, this is second-hand, but she said the room was in very poor condition and many things (like the microwave) didn't work.

Tripadvisor.com might be a good place to look as well to read reviews.

hojo or camolot inn so far they have both been nice an right across the street

I don't think the amenities are the Paradise Pier are any different, though for some things you have to go over to the DLH next door. The main differences are the pool area, the lack of landscaped grounds at the Paradise Pier, and the decor. I think that guests at the Pier can use the pools at the DLH, but of course it would be a longer walk.

I personally prefer the Pier to the DLH - the main thing I don't like is the elevator situation, since it can take a long time to go up/down if you're doing it during the busy times of day.

Regarding the Sheraton Anaheim: We love it there! The rooms are super big (I think I read somewhere the biggest standard room in the resort area), the beds are oh-so-dreamy comfortable (sweet sleeper beds), the grounds are beautiful, they have room service (okay, I'll admit this IS a priority for me :) ), and the service has always been great. As far as not being able to walk, they do have their OWN shuttle and if you time things right it's as quick or quicker than walking to GCH.

We've not stayed at PP so I can't comment on that.

Candy Cane Inn: Okay, this is billed as a boutique hotel. My reality was a very cute but Motel with outside corridors and a view of the parking lot. The beds were fine. It just wasn't my personal cup of tea.

Thank you all for your suggestions - very helpful. Have done the Desert Palms before, and if it's any help to anyone else, would not do it again. Actually, am really trying to avoid a similar experience - we were there during early June, and it felt completely overrun with people, particularly the breakfast buffet. Rooms were very average - moved within the hotel on seeing the first offering.

I guess, in a nutshell, it seemd to amplify all the worst features of DL in the busy season....looking for (slightly) more of a haven!

Well, we stayed at DLH last year so this year (we just came back last week), I decided to try PPH. And actully, I thought the rooms were very simular. I thought the bed's were a little more comfortable and just a tiny more spacious. Another thing, was at PPH the shower heads are set higher. I did'nt have to croutch down to wash my hair. Big plus!! I also thought the walk into the Park was about the same. At DLH you basiclly walk in a staight line down Downtown Disney. At PPH, you just cross the street and cut through GCH, no big deal. Room service was also great at PPH. And don't forget the perks at staying on the resort! Hope I helped somewhat.:yay:
